and tucking her into bed.
“ I’m sorry, Daddy,” she cried, miserable. Jake sat beside her, rubbing her back until she calmed enough to fall asleep.

Chapter Four

Jake took Ally’s hand and led her into the supermarket. Jake grabbed a trolley. It was over-sized with a large seat at the front for adult boys and girls to sit in. But Ally was an adult for this shopping trip. Jake wanted her input when it came to buying her food for the next week. He was going to be keeping a close eye on her diet. She had agreed to try one day at crèche, which he was pleased about. He’d already spoken to the crèche director about watching Ally carefully.
So today, she walked by his side as they made their selections, instead of sitting in the seat of the trolley.
“Jake, Ally, how are you both?”
Jake looked up to find Marc, a friend of theirs, smiling over at them. His little girl/wife, Lily stood beside him, fidgeting.
“Hi Marc, hi Lily.” He smiled at the little girl who continued to move back and forth.
“Hi, Doc Jake. Hi Ally. Aren’t you a little girl today?” Lily asked, seeing Ally’s big clothes.
“Not right at this moment,” Ally said.
“Oh.” The other little girl whirled her hair around her finger. Then her gaze moved to the shelves behind Ally.
“Daddy can I have some of those sweets?” she asked.
Marc shook his head. “I’m afraid not, baby . You’ll be climbing the walls and I can barely keep up with you as it is.”
Lily pouted and looked down at her feet. “But I want them, Daddy,” she whined, stepping towards them.
“Well, we don’t always get what we want, do we?” Marc said sternly. “And if you let go of that trolley then you’ll have to sit in it, little one.” He turned to Jake and Ally. “Lily has a rather sore bottom. Out of the goodness of my heart, I’m letting her walk while we shop as long as she doesn’t let go of the trolley, however, she’s pushing me with this bratty behavior . And if she doesn’t sort out her attitude then she’s going to end up like that one.”
Marc nodded over to the end of the aisle where a man was currently pulling the pants of his little girl down. She was screaming, crying even though he hadn’t touched her. He tipped her over his knee and started spanking steadily.
Her bottom quickly grew pink as her screams grew louder.
Both Ally and Lily winced in sympathy.
“Come along, Lily,” Marc said, pushing the trolley along. “See you both, later.”
“ Bye Marc, Lily. All right, Ally, let’s get shopping.”
Once Jake was satisfied they had a wide selection of healthy, nutritious food, he steered the trolley towards the checkout.
    “Lily, put that down.”
They looked over to find Marc and Lily were standing in line two aisles over. Marc took a chocolate bar from Lily’s hand. She stomped her feet, her hands on her hips.
“Uh oh, someone’s about to get it,” Jake said.
Ally winced as Mar c wrapped one arm around his wife and started to apply his hand heavily to her buttocks. A lthough he left them covered, the thin cotton dress she had on wouldn’t be much protection. Soon she was crying loudly, sobbing. Marc took her by the hand and led her through the checkout aisle, making her stand at the end, her face to the wall.
“Now just stand there and don’t move until I come for you. And you, baby, are in for a hard session with the hairbrush when you get home , ” Marc told her ominously, but his love for his wife was clear.
“Come on, Ally,” Jake said, pulling his wife’s gaze away from her friend. “Let’s get home and make some lunch, yeah?”
Ally looked up at him, love shining in her eyes.
    *****
The trouble began when she couldn’t find her favor ite hair ties. When Jake told her that she’d have to use the other sort instead as they didn’t have time to look for them Ally had thrown a temper tantrum worthy of any two year old. Down on the ground, her legs pounding against the floor in time
