Chapter Seven
    Two weeks had passed and Jana was strung tighter than barbwire on a fence post. She entered Lisa’s home office and sat in front of the computer. The small room was neatly organized, with shelves containing several medical books, romance novels, and knickknacks on one wall.
    Family portraits were hung on another and a third wall was swallowed up by a picture window. A candle on the desk gave off a light scent of vanilla.
    Nicolas was relentless in his pursuit of her. The night Lisa had been called away on a medical emergency, leaving Jana alone to dine with Nicolas, had been the worst.
