your masks a little more.”
He nodded, as he watched the sun begin to drop into the ocean. “For all that she’s dragged her feet with this divorce, it’s time to give her and Beau exactly what they deserve.”
    “Each other,” Mia chimed in.
“Precisely, Baby Girl,” he leaned forward to grab a bunch of grapes and went to pop one into Mia’s mouth, then playfully pulled away making her lunge for it.
“Bastard,” she elbowed him, “don’t go all California boy on me here.”
Laughing he gently placed the grape against her lips and she parted them, allowing both his fingers and the grape into her mouth.
“Aren’t you curious how complicit he’s been in all this?” Mia wondered.
“I think in college she flirted with him and he fed her the information she asked for. He definitely did her bidding.” Schooner fed her another grape, enjoying the way she was slowly sucking his fingers.
“Do you think he might have sought me out on Facebook as a way to finally make his move after all this time?” Mia licked the squished grape juice from Schooner’s finger.
“It worked,” Schooner laughed. “From the minute he told me he’d had contact with you, I could not focus on anything else. I actually sat right here on this bench at 4 A.M. the night of my birthday party, drinking Courvoisier and counting the hours until Monday morning when I could get to the office and have Yoli help me set up a Facebook account.”
    “You seriously weren’t on Facebook?”
Shaking his head, “I had successfully avoided social media until that night. I don’t think Beau will ever tell me the truth, especially now that he’s involved with CJ.”
“I really felt for Zac today, Schooner. He was unhappy about our coupling, but he was able to run to CJ and at least he had a situation with his mom that hadn’t changed. But now, when he came home for spring break, she was gone, too.”
Schooner nodded, “And to a family friend he’s known his whole life. And the guy is now sleeping with his mother.”
“And it’s, Beau. Ick.” Mia’s face scrunched up as if she’d just eaten a lemon instead of a grape.
“Not to be rude and shallow, but what the hell,” he laughed. “You actually knew him in his good looking days.”
    “No,” Mia bellowed.
“He’s got the Barbie he’s always wanted and she has a guy who is going to adore her and treat her like a goddess. She’ll treat him like shit and he’ll love it and feel like he’s won the Super Bowl,” he stroked Mia’s hair.
    “Karma,” she said softly.
“Mmm-hmm and the two of them just gave me everything I needed to end this debacle of a marriage, which is perfect, because it was the two of them who forced us apart and kept us apart.”
    “Nice synergy, wouldn’t you say.”
Standing, Schooner reached out a hand to Mia. “Time to christen our boat.”
It didn’t escape Mia for a moment that his prized possession, his material soul mate, his ‘True Compass’ had already become ‘our boat’ and she could clearly see the family vacations that lie before them and the memories that they would make.
Pulling her to the aft cabin, “So, you seriously never had sex on this boat?”
    He shook his head no.
“Oh Captain, you poor deprived man.”
Schooner sat on the edge of the king sized bed with Mia standing between his long legs, smiling. Slowly, she pulled the sweater off over her head.
“Mmmm,” he moaned, “I think I’m going to like this. I would much rather be a depraved man.”
With a slow precision, she began to unbutton her blouse, her eyes trained on his pale sapphire eyes. “I kind of like California Schooner, he’s a little bit of a dick.”
Laughing, his eyes never leaving hers, “Sweetheart, he’s more than a little bit of a dick.”
“But you’re not that way with me,” she cocked her head.
Shaking his head, “No. I’m not.”
    “Take your pants off, dick.”
Lying back on the bed, he undid the button on his khakis and
