Vega Brothers: Khan: Secret Baby BBW (The Bear Shifters of Vega Ranch Book 2)
said all of those things,” she said, crossing and then uncrossing her arms. “If you want to take them back now, I won’t be mad.”
“No,” he said, stepping forward. “I meant it all. I want you to be my wife, I want to be a real father to Liam, and I want you both to move in.” A feeling of panic washed over him. “Did you not mean it when you said yes?”
His stomach hardened as he waited for her answer.
It came in a kiss. She leaned up and kissed his lips. “I did.”
Khan felt the weight of worry lift off his shoulders.
“I’ll be back before lunchtime,” she said, opening the door. “It better be good.”
It was going to be good. It was a beautiful summer day and Khan was planning on taking the two of them on horseback to the lake on their property, Bear Lake, for a picnic and then an afternoon of swimming. He couldn’t wait.
And as soon as they left, Khan was planning on heading into town to buy a diamond engagement ring for her. A real one. Not one made out of plastic.
“Bye,” she waved out the window as she backed her car up. Khan waved and smiled. She looked so hot in her aviator sunglasses.
“Bye, Khan!” a squeaky voice called out from the backseat.
He still couldn’t believe this was all happening. It really was a dream come true.
The little green car drove down the dirt path to the main road and Khan stood there until it disappeared. He felt a little hole in his heart as they left but he was still happy. They’ll be back soon.
He was about to turn to head inside when a silver SUV turned onto his property from the main road. A feeling of dread washed over Khan as the vehicle approached. It didn’t look like one of the Vega Ranch’s employees, and with the tiny American flag propped up on the side of the hood, he wasn’t looking forward to finding out who it was.
Khan stood there holding his breath in his weighted chest as the car squealed to a stop and the door opened.
    No…
General Samson stepped out of the vehicle in full uniform and locked his eyes on Khan.
“Just the shifter I wanted to see.”

Khan stood in the driveway watching with dread as his old boss, General Samson, stepped out of the shiny silver SUV. Khan felt his heartbeat turn sluggish and for some reason, he got a sour taste in his mouth.
“Just the shifter I wanted to see,” General Samson said, locking eyes with Khan.
“General Samson,” Khan said, straightening his back and saluting. Khan took a labored breath, feeling like there was a weight on his chest. Please, not me. Not now.
This was the worst timing ever. His mate, Bailey, had just agreed to marry him and move in with his son. He had a chance to have a real family. He couldn’t go back to war now. He wouldn’t. But if the general showed up in person it had to be for that reason.
“Commander Khan,” the general said, saluting him back.
“It’s just Khan now General,” he said, trying to sound firm. “I’ve been relieved of duty. You signed the papers yourself. About six weeks ago.”
“Do you think I’m a damn fool, boy?” General Samson asked, leaning in close.
“No, sir,” Khan replied. General Samson was a powerful man and it was best not to antagonize him. He was the one that ran the military’s ‘Special Program.’ The one that forced innocent civilian shifters like Khan and his brothers to go to the most dangerous places on the planet and do horrible things.
“I know what I signed,” he continued. “But it doesn’t matter. I need you back in the field.”
Khan hissed a breath. This was exactly what he was afraid of. “I’m sorry sir,” he said with a shakiness in his legs. “I have a wife and child now. I have to regretfully decline.”
“A wife and child?” he said with a laugh. “All that in the past six weeks?”
    “Yes, sir,” Khan replied.
    “You’ve been busy.”
    “Yes, sir.”
“Oh that’s too bad,” he said. Khan took a relieved breath. Thank God. He’s letting
