the faintest clue what I want to do with mine, but traveling like this is the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. We’ve only known each other ten days. A lot has happened, yes, but I still need to figure out who I am and what I want.”
“I want you, Jordan. Stay with me. Let’s see the world. Together.”
“If I stay, we need to talk about what this is between us. What we want.”
“I know what I want. I know what this is.” The way he says it makes me think he’s about to tell me he’s in love with me. That has to be the scariest feeling ever. So much to gain and so much to lose. But I can also see how easy it would be to let myself fall in love with Eric.
“The reality is, this is all happening really fast. If they hire me, I’ll need my own room. I need space to figure out who I am.”
“Promise me you’ll invite me into your space once in a while?”
“Oh, you’re invited. Make sure you show up.”
With a smile from ear to ear, he stands, clad only in a pair of gray boxer briefs that should be illegal and picks me up around the middle, squeezing me until I squeal.
“We don’t even know if I have a job yet,” I say, giggling.
“Let me tell you, if I take you to see my boss and you do your thing like you did at Isaac’s bar, you’ll be hired on the spot. They need someone, and no one on this boat can do what you do.”

I leave Eric to take a shower and head to my stateroom to find Kim. I wake her up as gently as possible. “Hey.”
    “Is everything okay?”
    “I’m not going back.”
She rubs the sleep from her eyes and sits up a little straighter in bed. “What are you going to do?”
“Hopefully, I’m going to get a job on this ship, but even if I don’t, I can’t go back.”
“I know.” It surprises me when she says it, but I guess she knows me better than I thought. “What about your stuff, at your apartment?”
“I can’t face it. There’s nothing there that I really care about. I’ll call the landlord and tell him to take my deposit to clear it out. Will you tell the boss I’m sorry for not giving notice?”
“Of course. Your eyes are clearer than I’ve ever seen them. There’s a light in them now.”
    “Really?”
She nods and squeezes my hand. “So, what about the guy?”
I’m confused by her question. “I don’t have a boyfriend in Vegas. I—”
“No, I mean the guy whose bed you’ve been sharing for most of the trip.”
I smile at the thought of working with Eric. Not having to say goodbye. “Oh. I like him. A lot. But, I need time to adjust to my new life. Anything is possible.”
