staring at June intently.
June closed her eyes for a moment. As much as her body might want it, she still couldn’t do anything about her desire for Kat here. “You have no idea.”
Kat leaned forward even farther, her fingers wrapped tight around the armrests. “I could help with that.”
June nodded slightly, then opened her eyes. “Not here.”
Kat drew back. She looked annoyed. “Why not? Here was just fine an hour ago.”
“Ash wants me to bring you home with me.”
Kat’s smile returned, and her eyes grew so dark they were almost black. “Perfect.” She stood smoothly and moved toward the door. She paused with her hand on the doorknob and turned back to June. “Coming?”
June nodded and swallowed hard. She definitely wanted to be coming and would be able to as soon as they made it to her house. She rushed to gather her things. As she followed Kat down the hall and out the main entrance, it took all of her control to keep from grabbing Kat’s hand and running.

Chapter Nine

When she pulled into her driveway, June tried not to focus on how someone like Kat, someone with that much money, would view her home and instead focus on how little that would matter once they made their way inside to Ash.
“Here we are.” June shut off the engine and gestured toward the walkway that led to the side entrance.
Their priorities when they’d bought the house had focused on what Ash needed to complete her work. She wanted an out building or garage that could be converted to a workspace, and few neighbors, as random external noise could negatively impact her creativity. Ash had wanted a garden full of flowers, room to grow veggies, fruit trees, and eventually animals. They hadn’t made it to the animal stage, but Ash had her flower and vegetable garden, along with a variety of fruit trees. And she had an acre of privacy with a converted shed cum studio.
Those things were all Ash ever saw. Their home was her personal version of heaven, and June had worked her ass off to give it to her. For the most part, June saw all the plusses and forgot about the negatives, but with Kat walking beside her to the side door, the negatives were all she could see.
In addition to the well-tended vegetables, the back part of the property with the trees was overgrown. The house needed a new coat of paint, and the string lights that Ash used to light the path between the back door and her studio looked more tacky than charming when viewed with a critical eye.
June paused at the top of the steps and said, “Welcome to our home.”
Kat might have been harboring any number of criticisms, but none of them surfaced. “It’s lovely. Thank you for the invitation.”
Kat responded like she’d been invited to a dinner party instead of a threesome, and her formality threw June for a loop. She stared at Kat, searching for the right answer. She still hadn’t thought of an appropriate response when Ash opened the door and pulled June into a deep kiss.
It might have been rude to kiss Ash with such abandon with Kat shuffling from foot to foot next to them, but she didn’t care. What they were about to do, what they’d already done, put June off-kilter. Kissing Ash righted everything in her world; it grounded her and reminded her of who she was, who they were. She desperately needed that right then. Rude or not, introductions could wait for a few moments.
Ash ended the kiss and followed up with a short, quick peck. Then she rested her forehead against June’s. “Hi. Welcome home.”
“Hi back. Thanks for the welcoming.”
Ash kissed her one last time, then released her and turned to Kat. “And you must be Kat.” She stepped close and pulled Kat into a kiss. It wasn’t nearly as long or thorough as the one she gave June, but it swallowed up any response Kat was on the verge of issuing.
It also relieved the pressure in June’s chest. The fleeting thought that maybe this had been a bad idea slipped away as she watched Ash kiss
