still felt that she owed it to everyone to make the best job of
this appointment as she could. She may be in charge of promoting
the club and keeping it in the news but she still wanted to learn
all that she could. Before she could answer back Luke came into the
room and said that Elsie needed Charlotte back in her office. She
was glad to escape and found her own way back. Elsie was waiting
with a pretty girl with black hair and a slim figure wearing a
smart red dress and black heels. She had a lovely smile which she
directed at Charlotte. “ Hi Charlotte,
meet Allison your new pa. ” Elsie said
brightly, as Charlotte smiled and shook the girls hand.
    Elsie
explained, “ Allison is my brightest and
most trusted assistant. I am busy with my job looking after Maurice
so thought that you would need somebody to help you full time. She
will run your diary and field all calls and e mails and basically
look after and organise you. Anything that you need just ask
her. ” Charlotte liked the look of Allison
and thought she must not be much older than herself. She had a warm
and friendly smile and Charlotte felt instantly at ease with her.
Elsie carried on. “ Right I will leave you
two to get acquainted and then you can get going if you want to as
you are being picked up at 7.30am to meet the team at the training
ground tomorrow. ”
    Elsie left the room
and Charlotte turned to the pleasant girl standing nervously
waiting. “ I am very pleased to meet you
Allison; I ’ m looking forward to working
with you. ” Allison smiled and
said, “ Yes me too, my desk is just
outside and please call me for anything at all. I have your
schedule for the next few days if you would like me to go through
it with you and we have had several offers from magazines and talk
shows all requesting interviews, you must let me know which ones
you want to go to and I will arrange them around your
schedule. ”
    They spent the next
hour going through the schedule and Charlotte started to realise
the mountain of work that was before her. Allison asked if she
would like a coffee and Charlotte gratefully accepted. As Allison
turned to leave Charlotte said suddenly, “ Allison do you think that you could find my driver Max and
ask him if he could come here for a minute, if he is busy
don ’ t worry I just want to ask him
something. ” Allison nodded and closed the
door. Within 10 minutes Max appeared. “ Max come in, ” Charlotte said with
a smile. “ Do you want me to get you a
coffee? ” Max smiled and nodded so
Charlotte poked her head outside the office and asked Allison if
she wouldn ’ t mind getting Max one as
well. When she went inside she said, “ sorry Max I hope that you don ’ t
mind me asking you to come here but I wanted to ask you
something. ” She gestured to the settee
and they sat down. Allison came in with the coffee, “ I managed to find some biscuits as
well, ” she said. Charlotte
replied, “ Thanks Allison, make sure you
have one yourself won ’ t you? ” Allison smiled and left the room. Once again
Charlotte was quite distracted by Max ’ s
presence. He seemed to fill the room with an air of mystery and
excitement and she found herself wanting to be close to him and not
wanting him to leave. She felt safe with him and was so glad that
fate had had a hand in bringing them together.
    “ Max, I want to
stay a bit later tonight as I have to meet the team tomorrow. I
need to find out everything I can about them so that I am prepared
when I meet them. Would you help me? It may mean a late night
though and I don ’ t know if you have any
other commitments? ” she said hoping that
he didn ’ t. Max smiled and said, “ of course not I would love to help. ”
“ Good ” she
said. “ Do you like pizza?
I ’ ll order us some and maybe Allison can
help too, I don ’ t like to ask though as
it is your own time. ” “ No
