at Carr, and he froze.  “What was with the guttural demon speak?  And why are you you now?”
“Your cancer is now gone.  I was performing a ceremony of death and rebirth.  I took your life and then gave it back to you.”
    Julian smiled wanly.  “Seriously?”
“There are, of course, strings attached,” Carr said with a smile.  He pulled from Julian’s ass and rolled to his side, taking the human with him.
“There are always strings when it comes to demons.”
Carr chuckled.  “You’re alive, but not exactly in the same sense you were on earth.  You’re now part demon.”
Julian reached up and caressed his forehead.
Carr shook his head.  “No, you haven’t grown horns.”
Julian relaxed and released a breath.  “Good.”
“You’re now Immortal,” Carr said cautiously.  “As my mate, you will live a long life at my side, ruling this realm.”
    “Olivier?”
    “Banished.”
Julian smiled.  “So, I’m now a gay half-demon who has to live the rest of my life by your side?”
Carr tensed.  The man hadn’t been quiet about his lack of desire to be a mate.  “Yes.”
“I can live with that,” Julian said as he snuggled in closer to Carr.
“Seriously?” Carr asked.  “I didn’t think you wanted to be a mate.”
Julian turned to face Carr.  “I can’t imagine being anywhere else.  It’s the most clarity I’ve had in many years.  I would like to spend time with my father on earth, if possible.  I haven’t been a good son, and he deserves more.  Will that be possible?”
“Of course,” Carr answered, happiness filling him.  He’d give his mate the moon and the stars to keep him happy.
Julian lay back into Carr’s embrace and grew quiet.  He’d taken the news of his rebirth so easily, Carr wondered if this was as good a time as any to spring the rest of the news on his mate.  He’d find out soon enough, and Carr didn’t want lies and surprises hounding them.
“So, there’s one more part of the ceremony.  I probably should’ve asked you beforehand, but I took liberties.”
Julian looked up, his gaze clear and untroubled.
“You were given life back.  As well as another life.”
Julian frowned.  “What do you mean?”
Carr shrugged his shoulders.  He was struggling with how to broach the topic, especially since the human wasn’t accustomed to demon ways.  “Well, as my mate, you’re my mate in every sense of the word now.  There are a few things we demons do that are a different than humans.”

    Chapter Seven

    Seven months later…
Julian awoke in the arms of his mate, stretching as well as he could without waking Carr.  He pushed himself out of the bed, his body sore and aching.  He padded over to the bathroom and washed his face and hands to help wake up completely.  Looking down, he rubbed the growing stomach protruding before him, still shocked months later that he’d be a father.
    Or was that mother?
He still wasn’t completely sure how it would all work out.  He’d been angry for a long time, but it had been impossible for him to remain so.  He’d gotten a second chance at life and now he would bear the child of his mate.  Once his body had been filled with death, and now it was overfilled with new life.
    A son.
Another great demon lord in the making, another male to stand tall against the evils of the underworld.  How could Julian be angry about that?  A male like Carr was exactly what their realm needed to continue the peace, and it was becoming harder and harder for Julian to mask his joy at the impending birth.
There was also a little fear mingled in there as well.  Carr had told him there would be no pain, but Julian wasn’t completely sold on the idea.  His mate seemed to like to leave out little details until after Julian found things out on his own.
Strong arms wrapped around him.  Julian looked over his shoulder and smiled up at his demon.  Carr lovingly stroked Julian’s stomach and
