rather disdainfully and looking up at me expectantly.
â€œI suppose you want bacon and eggs?”
The wolf barked and nodded his big shaggy head. With a sigh I started pulling the supplies from the fridge and began breakfast.
Thankfully, Dizabell had no such problems with her regular diet; she happily gobbled down the bowl of dog food before turning a few circles and lying down for an after-breakfast nap on the rug in front of the window.
Connor watched me closely as I prepared the bacon and eggs. I only divided the food into two portions since neither Epenie nor Tera seemed to be up and placed one plate on the floor in front of Connor.
â€œThis doesn’t mean anything,” I said almost defensively as I left the plate.
I carried the other plate to the small round kitchen table and sat in one of the chairs with one leg folded beneath me so I could watch Connor while I ate.
It took only a matter of moments for me to scarf down everything on my plate, but when I finished, Connor was already licking his own clean.
â€œYou don’t plan on spending the whole day like that, do you?”
The air around him started to shimmer and he morphed back into Connor the man right in front of me, a very naked Connor.
I blushed profusely and stared at my plate. “I didn’t mean for you to change right now!”
â€œThen you shouldn’t have asked questions that I couldn’t answer,” he said simply.
â€œI do that all the time! Just ask Dizzy!”
â€œMaybe later. Thank you for letting me stay here last night. I rested much better knowing you were with me and I could keep you safe.”
I nodded, still staring at my plate and muttering softly, “It still didn’t mean anything.”
â€œDon’t worry, I am not under any illusions that you are any more ready to accept me than you were yesterday.”
This was a horribly embarrassing situation. I had no idea where to look so I continued to stare at my empty plate.
â€œWhy won’t you look at me?”
â€œ You’re naked! Besides, I told you I needed space and time. You said you’d give it to me,” I growled with frustration, feeling foolish for letting him stay now.
He sighed. “You were more comfortable with me as a wolf.”
â€œYes. I know it’s still you and it’s ridiculous to feel safer that way, but I do,” I said miserably.
â€œSafer from who, I wonder?” he asked from right behind my chair. It took all my concentration to breathe knowing he was naked behind me. All I had to do was turn my head slightly and I could look my fill.
I stayed rigid in my seat. “What?”
â€œAre you safer from me or safer from yourself?”
â€œThat’s a stupid question and I’m not answering it! I liked you fine as a wolf but now you can get out!”
I stood and opened the kitchen door that led to the garage, careful not to let my eyes stray downward; I looked at him and pointed outside.
He stopped in front of me, peering down into my eyes. I knew he could see the sea of turmoil and conflicting emotions swirling around in them as I looked up at him.
â€œYou will let me in tonight when I come.” It was a statement, not a question.
Looking away, I simply stared stubbornly out into the side yard.
â€œAlexandria.” His tone demanded a response.
â€œFine,” I said in a clipped tone, irritated that I actually wanted him to come back tonight. “But no more presto change-o; you can come as a wolf and you can leave as a wolf. No more breakfasts either! I don’t want to talk to you or see you again today. I want the time and space you promised.”
Once again he used a finger to tip my face up to his so I would have to look at him. “I will give you as much time as I can, Alexandria, but my patience isn’t infinite.”
â€œIt hasn’t even been two days.”
â€œIt’s only been a few days for you; for me it’s
