all made perfect sense. Even knowing that I was likely wasting my time, he'd allowed me to perform tests to try to get to the bottom of the fertility issues for over a week, all the while planning to seduce me once I felt comfortable with him, I was sure.

I felt furious yet more than a bit strangely turned on at the same time. And the fact that I was strangely more than a bit turned on only made me even more furious.

I could barely concentrate on my work at the medical clinic that day. Partly because I was angry with Eric and partly because I couldn't stop thinking about what it would be like to share a bed with him. For some reason, it also crossed my mind a few different times what it would be like to share a bed with both him and Nate.

Eric and some of his men were still dealing with the Gray Forms situation and weren't supposed to be coming back until evening. I texted Eric, telling him to please come to my bungalow when he returned to the village. I knew that once I gave him a piece of my mind, he was probably going to wish he was back near the lake with the Forms.

Once home from the clinic that evening, I choked down a few bites of dinner, then paced around with a glass of wine, still furious at Eric for not being upfront and honest with me about his intentions, yet still more than a little turned on at the same time.

When he knocked on the door around seven, I pulled him inside by the t-shirt, and shut the door behind him. Then I kissed him. Not just a peck, either. I kissed him holding the sides of his handsome face, my tongue hungrily seeking his.

When I pulled away, stunned at myself, I was nearly breathless, panting. "Screw you for making me feel like I wanted to do that. And screw you for not being upfront with me about why you brought me here to the island."

    "Liz, what-"

"Layla paid me a little visit this morning, and she told me that the real reason you brought me here was in hopes of getting me pregnant. She basically told me you knew I probably wouldn't have success with the fertility problems, so your ultimate plan was to seduce me in hopes that I'll get pregnant and produce a baby to add to the people of the island. She said everyone has known all along that you brought me here under false pretenses. Everyone except me."

Still a bit breathless, I crossed my arms over my chest, having a difficult time keeping my gaze from Eric's full lips, which I desperately wanted to kiss again, to my extreme irritation.

With his dark eyes glassy, he heaved a sigh. "Layla. I should have known she'd try to meddle somehow. She'll do anything to interfere with me moving on with another woman. I made the mistake of thinking I could finally trust her to behave maturely. However, this will be the last time I make this mistake. I'll have her banished from Clearwater, right now, today."

"Well, great. But, bottom line, you're not denying that what she said is true."

Wincing, Eric sighed again, running his large hands over his handsome, square-jawed face. "I wasn't a hundred percent forthright with you, yes, it's true. I was going to come clean with you last night and tell you my intentions. I was going to ask you if you'd be willing to stay on the island and mate with me in hopes of producing a child."

"And this was your plan all along. Even back in New York."

"I can't deny that when I met you I wished with every fiber of my being for the chance to mate with you. I won’t even begin to deny it, because that would be an absolute lie.

“I knew I had to try to get help for my people, and although I knew it was a slim chance that you'd be able to figure out the fertility problems immediately, I still wanted to hire you to try. I want you to try to find a solution, even if the problem is somehow supernatural. Maybe there’s some way we can work around it.

“But in the meantime...yes, Liz, I want to mate with you. I want to try to produce a child with you.
