few hours after he had arrived. It was very uncomfortable. While at dinner, I was tempted to ask him what I’ve done and apologize, but I decided I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing he’s bothering me. I’ll just ignore him as much as possible while he’s here.”
“I think you’re wrong, Lizzy. You just don’t have that much first-hand experience with guys, so you don’t see it.” Charlotte frowned. “It still makes no sense that you never had a date before college, and the couple of guys you’ve gone out with since you’ve been here ended up being losers.” She shook her head, then wiggled her eyebrows up and down. “You’re just not used to the look Will’s been giving you.”
Elizabeth’s scowl deepened. “No, Charlotte, I’m absolutely sure I’m right about Will Darcy. I can’t wait until he leaves so I can be spared his disapproving glare!”

Chapter 4
    ~A few weeks later
Returning to the dorm, Elizabeth walked into the common room and found everyone present, except Georgiana. They were getting ready to watch a movie, and the telltale scent and sounds of popcorn cooking filled the room. Anne jumped up from her seat and moved toward the microwave. Elizabeth followed her.
“Anne, you’ve met this guy that Georgie’s been hanging around with lately, haven’t you?” Elizabeth asked.
Anne dumped the bag of microwave popcorn into a bowl. “George Wickham? I’ve known him almost all my life. He was always hanging around anytime the Darcys had us over. His father was a lawyer for Darcy Construction and was one of Mr. Darcy’s best friends. When Mr. Wickham died, George had no other family and went to live with the Darcys. Why?”
“I’m not sure. I was walking across campus a few days ago and ran into Georgiana and George, and she introduced us. She seems so vulnerable sometimes, and the way he looks at women, especially Georgiana... I just don’t trust him.” Elizabeth sighed. “Maybe you should ask Will about him?”
“You must have misunderstood the situation, Lizzy. Richard, Will, and George practically grew up together, though I haven’t heard his name mentioned in a while. They drifted apart when Mr. and Mrs. Darcy died. George told me the other day that he was so upset about their deaths, he quit college and stayed away from the family. He’s trying to get back on track now.” Anne flopped onto the couch between Jane and Charlotte. “George is like an older brother to her. I’m sure Georgiana wouldn’t be interested in him like that.”
Jane smiled. “I think it’s great that she’s found another friend on campus. She’s so shy. Maybe George will introduce her to some nice boys.”
Elizabeth sat in a chair across from the other girls. “George Wickham is very charming—I’ll give you that—but I don’t know how nice he is. I have a very bad feeling about him.” Elizabeth saw Jane stiffen. Jane knew all about her sister’s “bad feelings” and trusted them, though Charlotte and Anne usually made a joke out of them. “I don’t know how Georgiana feels about him, but after witnessing the way he was looking at her before he knew I was there, I’m absolutely sure he doesn’t think of her as a sister. And just now, he caught up to me on my way home. Where he was looking made me feel very uncomfortable.”
“It doesn’t hurt anyone to look. He’s male, Lizzy! What do you expect?” Charlotte laughed.
“George Wickham never took his eyes off my chest during our entire conversation, Charlotte.” Elizabeth raised both eyebrows. “I said goodbye several times, but he kept following me anyway. Though he wasn’t very specific, I felt very uneasy with his tone when making certain insinuations . I expect men to treat women respectfully, not to act like a dog salivating over a prime cut of meat! To be honest, I don’t like him, I don’t trust him, and I really don’t think we should leave Georgie alone with him.”
    “And I think you’re
