was confused though—I had an ancient Greek symbol and a Native American telling me ‘Shawnee—White Buffalo’. What was the link, and how would these connect to my journey ahead?
Researching White Buffalo on the web, I was surprised to find he wasn’t an Indian chief, but in fact a Native American legend.
The many great tribes of the Native American peoples all had similar stories about the ‘White Buffalo’. The Sioux are a warrior tribe, and for example one of their proverbs says, ‘Woman shall not walk before man’. Yet White Buffalo Woman is the dominant figure of their most important legend. The medicine man Crow Dog explains: ‘This holy woman brought the sacred buffalo calf pipe to the Sioux. There could be no tribe without it. Before she came, people didn’t know how to live. They knew nothing.’
The White Buffalo Woman showed the people the right way to pray, the right words and the right gestures. Before she left the people, she told them she would return. As she walked away she turned into a young white buffalo. So for Native Americans the birth of a white buffalo calf is seen as a most significant prophetic sign for their people.
The more I read, the more captivated I became with the story.
Some modern commentaries referred to her in more contemporary terms as ‘prophetess’ or ‘psychic’. I could now see threads coming together with my career and a possible link or interconnection to come. On studying the map of the USA to locate the Shawnee nation, I was stopped in my tracks—Ohio. That rang a bell. Wasn’t that where Roslyn Bruyere, the world-renowned energy healer and scientist, had a workshop in late August? It was all coming together beautifully. Roslyn was part Native American herself, and also known as a medicine woman. My spiritual quest was unfolding. Cincinnati here I come!

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

I registered immediately in Roslyn’s workshop. I was surprised— I suppose I shouldn’t have been—to learn that Roslyn’s partner, Ken, was a qigong teacher! It was a double whammy. All I needed to do then was secure a flight out of Australia to connect with the workshop. Would I have enough time to link the two together? Usually, I find that if I’m meant to do something, unusual patterns fall into place.
The airline had one ticket left at a sale price, and after that the prices doubled. I was heading off in peak season and I needed to pay for the ticket within the next two days to secure the seat and price. But it was a heavy week for outgoings. There were bills that had to be paid—don’t you just love it when they all come in at the same time? I knew I’d be struggling to pay for the ticket that week along with my other financial commitments. On checking my bank balance, I found the magazine had paid me double, not for one week’s column but for two. This was most unusual—or could I say divinely contrived by my new guide!
Nevertheless, it gave me the flexibility to pay for the airline ticket immediately, securing the cheaper airfare and with the bonus of some spending money. I had a mate from Aussie radio, Shorty Brown, who had broken into the comedy world in LA and was living there. Perhaps she could meet me at the airport and we could catch up between flights. I emailed her immediately.
‘Sure, but you’re going to come and stay with me. Not just overnight, come for a holiday—it’ll be a blast! I’ll show you the sights of Venice Beach and Hollywood, and you can see my comedy act in Santa Monica. Stay as long as you like. You can get a local flight from LA to Cincinnati no probs from here, just come.’
I was starting to get very excited. This was my first trip to the USA, things had fallen into place very quickly and I felt divinely led. Yet, it still
