personal questions Jesse had started bombarding her with. Unsure of why he was asking such outrageous things, she had laughed them off and refused to answer.
“When Jess brought you home that first night, I was instantly smitten. You were even more beautiful in person than in the pictures Jesse had snapped of you with his cell phone,” Alex confessed to her.
“Are you out of your mind? I looked a mess that night, all rumpled and sleep deprived from all those hours I had spent hiding out in the library.” She couldn’t help but remind him of her sorry appearance the first time she had met him.
“Your lips were swollen, your eyes were hooded, and your hair was tousled,” Alex stated. “Very hot.”
“Men find that attractive?” she asked in disbelief. “My makeup was smeared, and my clothes were wrinkled.”
“Which made you look as if you had either just engaged in some head-banging sex or had been caught in the middle of some serious foreplay. Which leads a guy to have some serious fantasies,” Jess said.
“So if you were both attracted to me, then why haven’t either of you made a move on me?”
“We did today,” Alex pointed out.
“Before today,” she clarified, her cheeks heating up at the reminder.
“Because as Alex here will gladly point out to you, I’m a rank idiot.” Jess sighed in self-disgust.
“What do you mean?”
“He means that Einstein here was the moron who told you we were gay in order to get you to allow him to bring you home that night,” Alex snarled.
“And I’ve already apologized for that fuckup a thousand times,” Jess snapped back. “But Maggie wouldn’t have felt comfortable sleeping under the same roof with two men unless she had some reassurance that she was perfectly safe with us, would you have, Maggie?”
“No, I wouldn’t have,” Maggie confirmed. “I would have preferred to take my chances staying at the library all night where there was at least some semblance of security rather than to take my chances with two unknown men, no matter how well-intentioned they claimed to be.”
“So I did the wrong thing for the right reason,” Jess declared with a “so there!” look at Alex, and Maggie couldn’t control the giggle that escaped her lips.
“Perhaps,” Alex conceded, “but that didn’t make up for the fact that you were now under the impression that we were homosexual lovers, and we didn’t have a clue about how to tell you the real truth.”
“So was earlier an attempt on your part to ‘show’ me rather than tell me?”
Both men looked away sheepishly as Alex said, “No, earlier was the two of us losing control.”
“We truly didn’t mean to go as far as we did,” Jesse apologized. “We’ve been trying our damnedest to get you hot for us, but we truly didn’t plan what happened earlier, I swear.”
“We just wanted you to want us as much as we want you. We thought it would be best if we slowly felt you out to see if you would be willing to become our girlfriend, so we decided we’d try to see if we could make you desire us first. Not that I had a plan when I started massaging your shoulders. I really was only trying to work the kinks out of your muscles. But then it dawned on me that it was the perfect opportunity to see if we could ignite your desire for us, and we got carried away. And so for that, we both offer you our sincerest apologies.”
Maggie contemplated their confessions for a long moment. “And when you told me your story in the living room that day? Was that part of all this?”
“Our seduction of you, you mean?” Jess asked, and Alex suddenly looked as if he wanted to strangle him as Maggie began to sputter.
“Uh, that’s what we’ve been calling it among ourselves,” Jess admitted sheepishly. “But by ‘seduction,’” he hastily said, using air quotes to emphasis the word, “we meant seducing you into becoming our girlfriend, not just into our bed.” And then he winced as he realized that he
