that’s all. And don’t under any circumstance reveal your identity.”
She slaps my chest lightly, a nother smirk teasing her mouth. “You worry too much. Did anyone ever tell you that?”
She brushes her finger s across my cheek and heads for the entrance of the store. I follow.
“Hello!” a woman behind the desk greets with a bright smile on her lips. Her brown hair is graying and she has glasses sitting on the tip of her nose. “What can I do for you today?”
“We need uniforms and masks,” I tell her. “Four.”
    “Okay. What colors? Designs?”
“Black for her.” I point to Stealth. “Mix in some red patterns.”
“Like smok y patterns,” Stealth adds.
The woman types that into a computer.
“And for the other three. Black, too. ”
“ Okay. When do you need these by?”
“When’s the earliest you can have them done?”
She thinks for a second, scratching her head. “Tonight?”
    “All right.”
    “But it’ll cost you.”
I touch the bulging pocket of my jeans. Lindsay, Kale, and my allowances. It’s all in there. About three hundred dollars.
    “How much?” I ask.
    “Two hundred.”
That’ll leave us a hundred to spend on other items we might need in the future. Samson and Cindy give all the kids allowances. If we wanted more cash, we could ask them. But we’d need a reason and the last thing I need is for them to discover our plans.
“Okay,” I tell her, because I’m hoping to send Stealth out to the villains tomorrow. We’ll brief her and train her tonight so she’ll be ready.
The woman escorts Stealth to the back room to take her measurements. She then does the same for me. I hand her the paper with Kale and Lindsay’s information.
While Stealth picks out different shades of red, a few masked men and women walk into the store. I peer through their masks. I don’t know them.
“Okay,” Stealth says. “She said they’ll be done late this evening. Now what?”
I make my way to the door. “We go home.”
“Already? I thought we could hunt or something.”
I hold the door open for her. “No.” The door shuts behind me as I follow her down the block. “We have no reason to hunt, now that you’re going undercover.”
    “Oh.”
“Take us back to the Tower,” I say. She doesn’t. Just stands there, staring at me. “What?” I ask, stopping.
    “Aren’t yo u curious?”
    “About?”
    “The kiss.”
Of course I am, but I doubt she’ll tell me. “You were bored and were looking to entertain yourself. You chose me because of the rumors.”
    Her eyebrows lift. “Rumors?”
    I continue down the block.
    She follows me. “What rumors?”
    I don’t say a word.
    “Ray.”
I stop walking. The sound of my name on her tongue moves something inside me. Her soft voice saying it is sexy as hell. I swallow, feeling sweat gather on my forehead.
“You must have heard that I’m the League pervert ,” I say.
Her eyes catch mine. I quickly avert my gaze. Why did I give her ammunition to use against me?
“No, I didn’t hear that. Why would they call you that?”
    I shrug.
    “Because of your power?”
“ I’ll find my own way home. I want to be alone.”
    “No, you don’t.”
My gaze snaps to hers. “How can you possibly know what I want?”
    She doesn’t answer.
“You don’t,” I say, resuming down the block. “I’m going home.”
“Why are you so scared of me?” she asks from behind me.
    I face her. “I’m not.”
    “You’re running away from me.”
“ Because I want to be alone.”
I turn around and continue going. “You can’t sleep at night,” she says. “You keep thinking about it.”
I stop and clench my fists at my sides. Shut my eyes tight.
“I think about it, too,” she says in a low voice. She’s at my side. “A lot.”
I shut my eyes tighter, shoving away thoughts of pushing her against the wall of one of these houses and pressing my lips to hers.
    She’s just playing with me.
I open my eyes. She’s too close.
