The One
thick Australian accent rang out. “Attention guests, we are now departing the island of Kauai and will be heading across the Pacific to Tonga, then on to French Polynesia and back to Australia. We hope you enjoy the rest of your voyage. Captain Arnold out.”
Russell walked to the door and passed the key card in front of it to open it for the waiting steward.
“There we go,” he said as he straightened his white uniform. They went over the passenger and worker’s manifests and found everyone accounted for. They did a quick search and left. It took them around five hours to search the entire boat, and yes they even came down here but didn’t notice this door.”
Russell sighed in relief. “So as far as the Navy knows we’re still hiding somewhere on one of the smaller islands.”
“Exactly.” The steward said. “Now, if you would be kind enough to give me your pseudonyms so I can put you on the ships roll, That way, you can collect the tips you are owed while you work, it could come in handy when you bail in French Polynesia.” He said with a wink.
“So much for going to South America,” Sonja said.
“I do know China would be very interested in this information, as well as Japan.” The steward said.
“Japan is too risky, there is too much of an American presence there, it’ll have to be China.” Sonja replied. “By the way, we never managed to catch your name.”
“I’m surprised you don’t remember me, Sonja. It’s me, Yuri.” The steward said with a smile.
Sonja’s eyes widened in surprise and Russell let out a low whistle as he placed himself in front of Sonja, protectively.
“Don’t worry, Tiger. I know she’s bonded to you now. I don’t need one. I managed to figure out how to get around that compulsion.” Yuri explained.
“How?” Russell growled.
“I got neutered. I’m perfectly docile now. I removed my tracking device and placed it on a wild bear. I ran off to China where they helped me calm down, they had an operative replace the blood sample they took from the bear with my own. They definitely could use that intel you have.”
Sonja recovered from the shock. “Yuri, I’m...”
“No, I’m sorry.” He said. “For the things I did to you in the past. When I pulled that stunt, I had a moment of clarity. I didn’t want to hurt you again so I ran.” Yuri explained. “Now, I’m trying to make it right by helping you out. We can’t have an army of us out there. We’re abominations and shouldn’t even exist. If it happens, this world will turn into something like planet of the apes.” Yuri lamented.
“How do you know this?” Russell asked softly, he felt the same conviction as Yuri. He was a monster in body, but not in mind.
“I saw it.” Yuri replied bleakly “Russia let us into a village to see how we would act among regular people. The splicers were all male, I guess that’s what happens during our creation, only the Y chromosome can carry the animal genes, anyway. They killed all the men, and male children; all of them. Went absolutely berserk and killed every male human in the village. They then took the females as their own, without regard for them. Raped them repeatedly, even the children. The KGB deemed the experiment a failure and destroyed the evidence.” Yuri looked at Sonja and pulled an SD card out of his pocket. “You missed that part. Here, here is the evidence, including video footage of Yansa. You’re going to need it to bring crimes against humanity charges against Russia at least.”
Russell took the SD card and handed it to Sonja who then placed it in her bra with the first one. “One question, are we capable of producing offspring?” Sonja shot him a strange stare as he finished his sentence.
“Not without help.” Yuri replied. “The egg needs to be artificially inseminated and then implanted into the woman. She then needs to have a special hormonal injection to keep from rejecting the fetus.”
“You didn’t know that?”
