was love at first kiss, but there was something there that’s never been with another woman before. I know that it’s part of the reason I’m risking everything to track her down, that and the fact that she was abducted. Her abduction isn’t something I could just turn a blind eye to, and I couldn’t hand it over to the police and wish for the best.
I had every intention of leaving the credit card Shadow gave me on the dresser of the room I stayed in last night. Ten thousand dollars isn’t much for them, and it’s a drop in the bucket compared to what is owed to the SINdicate by her father, but it’s a hell of a lot of money to me. An amount I’d struggle to pay back at any rate. I do know, however, that it may be necessary at some point.
I do leave behind all evidence that BT Urruela exists. I may have walked into this clubhouse as one man, but I’m leaving as Mike Hawke, even as ridiculous as the name is. I shake my head and grin as I close the door to the room and make way to the living room in search of Kid. It’s time we head out; we have an eight-hour drive ahead of us today, and I plan to hit the casino as soon as we make it to town.
Laughter draws me into the kitchen where the majority of the crew from yesterday is having breakfast.
“Grab some grub,” Shadow says when he notices me standing in the doorway.
I’d rather be on the road, but I know I have to eat. I grab a plate and load it up; hoping Kid eats a big breakfast as well. The fewer stops between here and Vegas the better.
I sit beside Shadow and begin to shovel food into my mouth. “In a hurry?” he asks with a chuckle.
    I just nod my response.
Kid is across the room sitting beside a young girl who can’t be any older than fifteen or sixteen. They have their heads down, talking to each other.
She looks incredibly young, and it makes me wonder if she’s the daughter of one of the guys in the club. I’m certain they aren’t keeping teenagers around this place.
The other guys all seem to be lost in conversation as well, most sidled up to one of the women I found out were “club girls.” I discovered last night that the ladies that hang around the club were pretty much up for anything. I can’t pull my eyes away from a redhead and the member who was introduced as Snatch yesterday. He’s leaning far back in his chair, and although I can’t see what she’s doing, both of her hands being under the table and the glassy look in his eyes are a pretty good indicator.
Shadow’s laughter makes me pull my gaze from them. “You regret the offer from last night?”
“Naw,” I answer slightly embarrassed at getting caught staring at them. Shadow offered me the company of one of the club girls last night. Apparently they were pulling straws to see who got me the minute I walked in the door. Him relaying the information was strange, but I can admit that it was also flattering. Had I not been heading across the country to rescue a girl I can see staying in my life a while, I might have taken one of them up on the offer. Every one of the girls are beautiful, so it’s not like it would’ve been a hardship.
I narrow my eyes at Kid and the girl he’s sitting beside. He has his hand around her shoulder, and I’m suddenly disgusted at the idea that she may be a club girl. I can’t even fathom this club doing that.
Shadow must sense my apprehension. “She’s older than you think,” he says from beside me.
    “Eighteen?”
“Seventeen is the age of consent in New Mexico,” he answers. “But he won’t touch her until she’s eighteen. Kincaid is sending him out with you to make sure of it. Her birthday is in a few weeks.” He laughs again and gestures with his head toward the young couple. “He’s going out of his mind here, and she’s not helping the matter any.”
The girl wraps her arms around his shoulders and leans in to kiss him on the cheek. He almost looks pained at the situation. He pecks her on the cheek and stands
