out!â
âIt happened to that girl Holly last year, and she couldnât get the color out for, like, a week,â Liza reported calmly. She was clearly enjoying Ameliaâs freak-out.
âNo way!â Amelia cried. She went back into the shower, angrily tossed her towel over the stall door, and turned on the water.
Liza shook her head. âShe can try, but bug juice is pretty powerful.â
âOh Liza, I canât believe this happened on your last day. How awful!â Maddie said sympathetically.
âItâs okay,â Liza said with a shrug. âIt actually looks kind of cool.â
Liza ducked back into the stall to get dressed, and Maddie returned to the sleeping area.
âYou guys might want to skip showers this morning,â she told Libby, Samantha, and Emily. âLooks like the boys have sabotaged our shampoo.â
âWhat do you mean?â Libby asked sleepily.
Then Liza emerged from the bathroom, and Libby gasped.
âThat looks really cool,â Emily said.
âThanks,â Liza replied.
The girls got ready for flag while Amelia stayed in the shower, fruitlessly trying to get the bug juice out of her hair. Tara entered the bunk and frowned when she heard the shower running.
âSeriously?â she asked.
âGo easy on her,â Liza said, pointing to her hair. âThe boys got us.â
âBug juice?â Tara asked, and Liza nodded. Tara just sighed walked into the bathroom area.
Five minutes later the girls were gathered with the other campers for flag. Lizaâs hair was orange but nicelydried, and Ameliaâs hair was purple and still dripping. She stomped over to the boysâ side and poked Jared in the arm.
âYou were supposed to do the other shampoos, not mine!â she hissed, loudly enough so that Maddie and Liza could hear her.
Jared just shrugged. âI couldnât remember which was yours, so I just did them all.â
Maddie couldnât help smiling. âLooks like her own evil plan backfired on her.â
Then Patty and Jim Lewis addressed the campers.
âAs you all know, today is changeover day,â Patty announced. âToday weâll be saying good-bye to some of our campers, and welcoming new ones. Itâs also visiting day, so all of our normal activities are on hold for today.â
âTonight at dinner weâll be handing out a new activity chart,â Jim added.
âSo remember, be sure to wish your old friends well, and get ready to welcome some new ones with some Camp Wimoway spirit!â Patty said.
Maddie turned to Liza. The fact that her friend was leaving was finally sinking in.
âIâm going to miss you so much,â Maddie said, hugging her.
âMe too, Mads,â Liza replied.
The girls all headed to breakfast, where Liza drank a giant glass of orange bug juice. They were barely finished when Lizaâs parents came into the mess hall, scanning the room for their daughter.
Liza spotted them first and ran up to them, nearly knocking over her mother with a hug. Maddie slowly approached them, and Lizaâs dad gave her a big smile.
âMaddie, look at you! You must have grown three inches!â he remarked.
âThanks, Mr. Harry,â Maddie said.
âLiza, what did you do to your hair?â Mrs. Harry shrieked, when Liza let her go.
The girls told Lizaâs parents the whole story as they packed up all of Lizaâs things. It seemed to Maddie that it took no time at all before Liza was ready to go home.
Libby and Emily joined them as they carried Lizaâs bags to her car. Liza hugged each one of them good-bye. When she got to Maddie, she whispered in her ear. âLet me know what happens with Gabriel,â she said.
Maddie felt herself blush a little and nodded.
Liza got into the car and waved good-bye as the carpulled out. Maddie, Libby, and Emily waved and waved until the car was out of sight.
Maddie suddenly felt
