CHAPTER ONE
Chapter 1

    “1, 2, 3, 4…”
The sweat glistened from my skin, leaving droplets across the floor as I made my way across the room. Every step increased my body temperature as I tried my best to control my breath. My heart was beating out of my chest. I stared at my reflection, ensuring every move was precise.
    “Don’t forget to breathe.”
I let out a sigh and stared at the floor beneath me. My dark brown hair covered my face as the sweat dripped from each strand down to my toes. I clasped my fists and started to shiver, defeated.
“You almost had it! Why’d you stop?” Danny lay his warm hands on my shoulders, waiting for me to look up.
“Get some water, Crystal, we’ll try it again.”
I looked up slowly locking my frustrated glance with Danny’s sexy light brown eyes.
“I can’t do this. There’s just no way.”
“Look, you’re this close,” he said, creating a small gap between his index finger and thumb as one of his eyes began to squint. “All you have to do is try a little harder.”
“I know, but I can’t even get this right. What makes you think the judges would even bother with me?”
“Girl, stop that nonsense. You know you’ve got talent, stop trying to act like you don’t.”
Danny has been my best friend since grade school. He has a slim, athletic figure. He was a dancer and a damn good one at that. He could also sing exceptionally well, better than a lot of popular singers in the business right now. We’ve grown closer over the years. It was a strictly platonic relationship, though, I often wonder what he’s packing under those sweats. No, that’s too weird. Why do I think these thoughts?
The door opened behind us and some lady peeped her head in, “I’m sorry but we’re closing soon. You two have 5 minutes before the lights shut off.”
We nodded in unison at her as the door began to close. Our university had a dance department and we often used it to practice, well,   mostly for Danny, but I always found it fun to tag along. I was more of a singer, but according to Danny, I guess my dance moves weren’t too bad either.
I stared at the mirrored walls as Danny placed his warm hands on my wrists, controlling my movement, “You start down here, then lift your arms up here. Got it?”
I rolled my eyes and grinned, “You make this seem so easy, Danny.”
“Well, it ain’t that hard. I know you got it in you, Crystal.”
    “I know, but..”
I felt a sting against my ass cheeks, “No buts! You got this in the bag.”
He picked up his gym bag and took a towel out to wipe the sweat off of his body. “Let’s get out of here, I’m starving!”

CHAPTER TWO
Chapter 2

We ordered pizza and watched some scary movie about a creepy girl with long hair. One hand on a pizza slice, the other clasping Danny’s strong biceps.
“What’s happening? Oh, my god why is she walking so slow! Something’s going to happen, I can feel it!” I squeezed tighter.
“Girl, just look at the screen! You better not get any of that pizza on me,” he said, eyes locked on the television as he took another bite of his own slice.
This continued throughout the entire movie. My nervous chatter and his annoyed replies. He knew I hated scary movies but we always ended up watching them anyway. Danny lived only a few houses away from me and our neighborhood was always chillingly quiet at night.
“You ready for tomorrow?” he asked, handing me a warm blanket. He knows me too well, I was not about to walk myself back home after that movie.
I pressed my face into it and took a deep breath. It smelled just like Danny, he probably just handed me the one he’s been using.
“I think so. I’ll just practice all the moves in my dreams, I guess.”
Tomorrow was the day we’ve been practicing all summer for — the MK Entertainment auditions. These auditions were held every other year and this would be their third event. Contestants all over the world would gather to try and
