her lush curves. If the man didn’t know how to appreciate that, then well, she didn’t need a jerk like him around her. Trish had spent way too many years in her teens worrying about her weight and the way she looked until she had finally learned to love herself and see that beauty didn’t always have to be like it was in magazines. She had a booty and damnit, she was proud of it.

Trish pursed her lips, slightly amused by her newfound defiance to all things ex-boyfriend. Her brows uncurled from the constant frown that she had been wearing and her shoulders relaxed, trying her best to uncoil from her stressed state and take in the joy that was literally everywhere around her. In a few hours, her shift would be over and she could treat herself to some dark chocolate, a glass of red wine and another good book and really get into the spirit of the holiday. If a man wasn’t going to fall all over her that day then she was going to make damn sure that she at least got everything she deserved that she could get on her own. Including a mind-blowing orgasm, even if she had to make it happen herself.
I’m a modern woman, I can do whatever I want! she decided, smirking to herself.

Suddenly, she felt a tingle at the back of her neck and she peeked over her shoulder instinctively. She met the burning auburn gaze of a man she didn’t remember seeing before, his piercing eyes making her core twist and turn in dizzying loops. Her lips parted slightly, mesmerized by his deep, almost primal eyes. There was a kind of power exuding from him that seemed to drown out everything around him, once she was made aware of his presence. It was as if his aura stood out from everything and everyone around him, commanding attention and respect. Instead of shying away from it, Trish was inexplicably drawn to it, and to him.

A deep blush rose to her cheeks. It felt like he saw right through her and could pick up on what she was thinking. The man gave her a small conspiratory smile and Trish couldn’t help but return it, the tension cut between them but still remaining, strong and looming in the background.
He’s cute! And I can’t stop staring at him…Look away, Trish, goddamnit! I wonder if he’s from around here…
And then, he stood up and left the diner, completely ruining Trish’s little fantasies that included him, her and a nice hot bubble bath. Her expression dropped, Trish turning sullenly back to her coffee. Valentine’s was not going great.

CHAPTER TWO

When Trish was allowed off from her shift, she almost fell over herself trying to scramble out of the diner. She had been around smiling people all day and it was becoming harder and harder to keep a straight face. They didn’t deserve her snapping at them, but she was afraid she couldn’t really keep from it from much longer. It was seasonably chilly outside, snow topping the mountains and covering the grounds as far as she could see. The Cabinet mountains loomed in the distance, the high mountain ranges making for a gorgeous sight. Her warm coat was wrapped tightly around herself, only her eyes peeking over the thick-furred edge of the collar.

The air that rose from her nostrils and mouth turned to fog right away, the freezing weather making her wish that she was walking with her hand in someone’s palm. The eyes of the big, wide-shouldered man from earlier stayed with her. They’d haunted her all day, lingering in the back of her mind. It was as if she couldn’t shake him from her thoughts. He’d even managed to drive away some of her glumness about her jerk of an ex, though she was more than certain that if she could spend more time around the mysterious stranger then she’d feel even better about it all. Trish smirked to herself, cuddling her arms around her body tighter as she walked down the forest path towards the small cluster of buildings a few miles to the East.

The trail was treacherous to those who didn’t know it and
