CHAPTER FIVE
    Luella Dawson’s blog:
Clem’s back! Thank the gods and goddesses of reality TV, who were torturing us with Cai and Kiki …
My little bird told me that Clem will take part in the second season of the CC’s and filming is due to start at the Baobab and Buffalo Lodge and Rehabilitation Centre where Clem is working—that has to be wrong, Clem working?—as a trainee game ranger.
As I write this I’m thinking that maybe my little bird has fallen off his perch and knocked his head … none of this makes sense! But I write it as I hear it.
AT THE airstrip, Nick parked by the hangar and looked across at Clem, who was looking anywhere but at him. Nick grinned; she hadn’t met his eyes since she’d left his bedroom that morningand he found it hysterically funny. Who would’ve thought that the society princess would feel so embarrassed at seeing a naked man? A fully—and, to be fair, aroused—naked man, but she didn’t need to get her panties in a wad about it.
Nick rubbed his chin. As she stood up and hopped off the Landy, he wondered if she knew how close to the edge she’d pushed him this morning. He’d had to grip the sheets in an effort not to rear up and yank her down to the bed to join him.
He wanted her like he wanted to take his next breath.
‘You’re going to have to look at and talk to me some time.’
Clem stared at her feet, seemingly fascinated by her pretty pink toes. ‘Does never work for you?’
‘I’ve never seen anyone blush with their entire body before. Or turn that particular shade of pink,’ Nick said conversationally, picking up his set of keys from the dashboard. He slipped his mobile into the pocket of his cream and rust untucked button-down shirt and shoved his sunglasses onto the top of his head. His radio went into the back pocket of his brown cargo shorts.
‘Can we just not talk about it any more?’ Clem asked.
Nick jerked his head for her to follow him to the hangar. ‘I would like to say that, for the record, I think it’s deeply unfair that you’ve see mein the buff but I’ve only seen you in your underwear.’
‘Yeah, well, that’s not going to change any time soon,’ Clem said.
Oh, if they weren’t very careful they both knew it could and would.
He’d had enough women to know that she liked the way he looked, that she wanted him as much as he wanted her. If she was just passing through, wasn’t his partner’s daughter, was fractionally less crazy he’d have had her already. But they had to work together, be together, have those cameras in their faces for the next two weeks.
All good and solid reasons for keeping his hands off her, but the most compelling reason he needed to keep his distance was due to the neon sign flashing behind his eyes.
Danger! Emotional curves and connections ahead. Proceed with extreme caution!
He’d navigated that corner before, lost control and tumbled down the cliff. He was not crazy, or stupid enough to repeat the experience. He wasn’t that good a driver.
Nick pushed open the hangar doors and walked inside the dark interior. On auto-pilot, he grabbed the aircraft tug, fitted it to the light aircraft and pulled it into the sunshine.
‘Close the hangar doors,’ he told Clem, who just stayed where she was, arms folded and looking at the sky. When he realized what she was waiting for, the corner of his mouth kicked up.
‘Close the hangar doors, Red. Please.’
‘Ah, so he does have a rudimentary concept of manners,’ Clem said before swaggering away. She tossed a naughty grin at him over her shoulder.
‘Pretty cocky for someone who was perving at me this morning,’ Nick called after her.
Clem threw a look at him over her shoulder. If he didn’t know better, he would’ve called it flirty. ‘I was not perving!’
Nick laughed and banged his head against the door of his plane. ‘Tell me again why you were in my room?’
Pushing the doors closed, Clem tapped her thigh with her finger and
