Now I get it. You’ve thought over my offer and now that you have my balls in your hands, I’d have no choice but to give in to your terms.” He scoffed at the gall of Emma LeFleur. If he didn’t dislike her so much, he’d give her credit for her tenacity.
The color drained from her face. “Look, I’m trying to help you. Why do you have to be such a jerk?”
    “This is me being nice.”
“Do you want my help or not?”
He chuckled. “Your help? You’re here because you’ve figured out I’m your only hope of saving your home and business.”
“That’s not true. You are not my only hope. I just thought more about your offer and realized if, and only if, we agree on certain stipulations on your plan, then I believe we can work something out that would be beneficial to both of us.”
This is going to be good . He’d had enough of her condescending moral hypocrisy. Just to see how far he could push her, he undid the first two buttons of his Levi’s and laced his fingers behind his head. “Go on,” he urged, noting how her eyes narrowed as she traced his movement.
“I just think that if we could work something out—”
“You already said that part. Fast forward to the juicy part. The part about what you’ll do in exchange for the money you need from me.”
“Do for you? What do you mean? I just said...I’m willing...I’d help...by talking to the neighbors...and David.”
“Forget the neighbors and your precious David,” he drawled, his gaze focused on her swollen lips. Did they taste as good as they looked? “What are you willing to do for me? How far would you go?” He got up and in less than two strides, her scent filled his nostrils. Jasmine?
“What do you think you’re doing?” She backed up several steps toward the door. His attention zeroed in on the erratic rise and fall of her chest.
When he was mere inches away, he traced a finger down her arm, purposely brushing the side of her breast. She swayed. “Emma,” he murmured. He liked the sound of her name on his lips. Jesus, she was hot. The way her body screamed to be touched was seriously turning him on. He craved to know what she looked like beneath the soft silky sweater. “Second base, at least, right? Or would you go all the way?”
She stopped his fingers from their leisurely stroll when she strode past him toward the kitchen. “You’re crass, and you’ve lost your mind.”
With his back to her, he took the opportunity to gulp in deep breaths and then adjusted his taut jeans. I bet I can drill a nail into the wall with my dick right now .
“McKenna, are you even listening to me? I’m offering you a way to get your project green-lighted. If you weren’t so pathetically drunk, you’d see I’m doing you a favor.”
Damn this woman. He shouldn’t have ever let her inside his trailer to mess with his head. Favor , my ass. She had her own agenda and he wanted no part of it. “No deal.”
She stood as still as a statue. “What? Why? Why are you being s-so unreasonable?”
A couple of more deep breaths and his mind started to clear. He leaned back against the door frame for support. “Like I said, it’s too late. Too much has happened. Too much negative publicity. You talking to them won’t make a hell of a difference. I have less than a week before they make up their minds.”
“You don’t know that it’s too late,” she insisted.
He wished he could be optimistic. But people like him didn’t get second chances. Maybe his father was right. Maybe he was destined to work in the mill with the stench of decomposing wood forever ingrained on his hands. The fear sobered him up and sank his hopes. He shut his eyes for a few seconds to erase the sound of his father’s condescending voice from his thoughts before he wrenched the door wide open. “Two minutes are up.”
Color drained from her face. “B-but what about the money you’ve already invested? You’ve fought long and hard. You can’t give up now.
