    “That’s not true. You are not my only hope. I just thought more about your offer and realized if, and only if, we agree on certain stipulations on your plan, then I believe we can work something out that would be beneficial to both of us.”
    This is going to be good . He’d had enough of her condescending moral hypocrisy. Just to see how far he could push her, he undid the first two buttons of his Levi’s and laced his fingers behind his head. “Go on,” he urged, noting how her eyes narrowed as she traced his movement.

    “What do you think you’re doing?” She backed up several steps toward the door. His attention zeroed in on the erratic rise and fall of her chest.
    When he was mere inches away, he traced a finger down her arm, purposely brushing the side of her breast. She swayed. “Emma,” he murmured. He liked the sound of her name on his lips. Jesus, she was hot. The way her body screamed to be touched was seriously turning him on. He craved to know what she looked like beneath the soft silky sweater. “Second base, at least, right?     She stopped his fingers from their leisurely stroll when she strode past him toward the kitchen. “You’re crass, and you’ve lost your mind.”

    He wished he could be optimistic. But people like him didn’t get second chances. Maybe his father was right. Maybe he was destined to work in the mill with the stench of decomposing wood forever ingrained on his hands. The fear sobered him up and sank his hopes. He shut his eyes for a few seconds to erase the sound of his father’s condescending voice from his thoughts before he wrenched the door wide open. “Two minutes are up.”
