disco at the Red Lion. We always have a great time and it will be good for you to meet everyone.”
“That would be great Gina thanks, though I could do with getting something done with my hair before I go out. Can you recommend somewhere in the area.”
“Yeah I’m going tomorrow to Cathy’s in town; I can give you her number if you like. They do all sorts of beauty therapy in there too and I was thinking of getting a spray tan if they can fit me in,” Gina said enthusiastically.
I personally didn’t think that Julia needed to change anything about herself but she had a genuine smile on her face so I didn’t say anything. Unfortunately Nik wasn’t so smart.
“Why the hell would you want to have a spray tan? It will look odd that one day you are pale and the next day orange,” he said, a confused look on his face. Gina wasn’t impressed with his outburst and replied, “It will look natural, not orange and anyway what’s it got to do with you Nik? This is what ladies do when they are going out now.”
“When you lot are on a night out you are certainly not ladies Gina. And now you are corrupting poor Julia.”
“Poor Julia......maybe it will be me doing all the corrupting Nik,” said Julia.
I laughed as Nik thought of a comeback, which seemed to take a while.
“I think I will invite myself on this night out then and,” “Oh no Nik,” cut in Gina, “Its ladies only, no men allowed.” “That’s a shame,” replied Nik, “because I’m picking Sergei up later so I…” “Sergei,” squealed Gina. “I’ve really missed him Nik; I haven’t seen him in two months. Oh you will just adore him Julia. He has a sexy Russian accent and has that tall dark and handsome thing going on. He makes me laugh with some of the things he says, and he always seems to wind you up Alex.”
“No he doesn’t,” I said, but he did wind me up, big time.
And what’s with this tall dark and handsome thing? I hoped that wasn’t Julia’s type. I may be tall and considered handsome I suppose but I’m fair haired.
“He says he bringing you some real Vodka this time,” replied Nik with a smirk and I groaned inwardly. Nik, Sergei, Gina and vodka are not the best combination.
“Julia the soundest advice I could ever give you is keep away from those three when there is vodka involved, and premium Russian vodka especially,” I said in a warning tone. Julia just turned and gave me a very defiant smirk and I wasn’t sure how to take that. I quickly tried to think of a way to make sure she would be ok on this night out so I offered to be their taxi home, telling them I would bring the works twelve seat minibus.
This offer was quickly accepted and Nik gave me a sympathetic look before tapping me on the back saying, “Alex you are a very brave man indeed.” I tried to ask what he meant but he kept shaking his head and laughing.
“Well I better get on with my work or my bosses will be mad,” said Gina with a sigh.
“Yes or I may start cracking a whip on your sexy arse,” replied Nik.
“You wouldn’t dare Nikolas Harding,” said Gina whilst walking out the door.
“Wait up Gina,” yelled Julia as she grabbed her bag, “If you are heading back to the compound I will go with you.”
This was it, Julia was leaving and we hadn’t arranged to see each other again apart from me driving her home on Saturday night with everyone else. So I quickly followed her out and before she could climb into Gina’s golf cart, I turned her around and gently kissed her lips.
To my surprise she kissed me back, but I could feel the heat from the blush in her cheeks. I don’t think she expected me to do anything in front of Nik and Gina but I wasn’t bothered who knew about my feelings for her.  That was something she was going to have to get used to because in my mind there was no going back to being just friends. I leaned over and whispered in her ear, ”I will call you later,” and with one more kiss on her cheek I let
