what I eat,â Anthony said. âSometimes I go to the gym to lift weights.â
Like on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I know that cute personal trainer with the barbed wire tattoo on his right bicep is working. Girls arenât the only ones who can play dumb when it comes to figuring out how to use exercise equipment.
Max squeezed Anthonyâs arm. âIt shows.â
Tingles shot up Anthonyâs arm and he could feel his cheeks turning red.
âYou okay?â Max asked.
âJust need to get some water,â Anthony croaked, walking in the direction of the locker room. âStill recovering from the Harris workout.â
âSorry Iâve been out of touch,â Max said. âFelixâs been taking me everywhere. I hardly have five minutes to myself.â
âFelix is great,â Anthony lied, leaning over a water fountain.
Heâs a great big scheming conniver who wants you all to himself!
âAnyway, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out together one afternoon. You know, so we can get to know each other better. Iâd like to start making some friends of my own. That way Felix doesnât have to feel like heâs babysitting me.â
This is your chance, Anthony. Do it, do it, do it! Invite him over this afternoon!
Anthony took a sip of water and wiped his mouth. âWe must be psychic twins or something, because I was going to ask if you wanted to come over to my place this afternoon.â
âYou were?â
âI wanted to run an idea by you.â
âShoot.â
âAt my party you told me you wanted to be an actor. Well, Iâm trying to become a screenwriter and Iâve just finished a screenplay. Iâm going to be including it with my admissions packet to UCLA and Iâm going to shoot it this fallâjust on a video camera. Iâm casting some of the parts and I think youâd be great as Michael, my lead character.â
âWhatâs it called?â
Anthony paused and then said, â Not All Italian Boys Are Straight. â He waited to see if the title had any effect, but Max just looked like he was listening. âItâs a gay coming of age comedy set in Brooklyn.â
Anthony held his breath. This was it. The moment of truth. Either Max was going to say yes or he was going to run screaming for the hills.
âSounds interesting. Iâd love to read it.â
âReally? You would?â
âAbsolutely. What time do you want me to come over?â
âHow does four sound?â
âItâs a date.â
Date? Itâs a date? Okay, Anthony, calm down. Itâs just a figure of speech. He didnât mean date in a romantic way. He meant it as in a time and a place kind of thing.
But what if he didnât?
Concentrate, Anthony. Concentrate. Stay focused!
âOkay, Iâll see you later.â
After changing back into his clothes, Anthony whipped out his cell phone and called Paige.
âItâs about time you called!â she exclaimed.
âGymâs now my favorite class. You would not beee-lieve the bod he has. Jealous, much?â
âIf you were standing in front of me, Iâd scratch your eyes out. So you talked to him?â
âI did more than just talk to him. I invited him over this afternoon. And heâs coming!â
âWhoa! You didnât waste any time.â
âYou sound bummed.â
Paige sighed. âI had an opportunity for a little alone time this afternoon with Max, but I blew it.â
âEnlighten me.â
âHe wanted to cut class and spend the afternoon together in Central Park.â
âAnd you said no ?!â Anthony was horrified. âWhat are you, crazy?!â
âI know, I know. Donât remind me. Anyway, what are you planning?â
âHeâs coming over to read my screenplay.â
âDid you tell him the plot?â
âUh-huh.â
âYou told him everything about the
