it a joke.
    He laughed. Oh thank God.
“Keep it? You want to be a mom?”
“Yeah. I’ve always wanted to. I love kids. I always told myself that if I ever got the chance to do it I would. And I guess this is the universe telling me that this is my chance.”
Max took a deep breath, his big shoulders and chest rising and falling. Then he took another one. “Do you want me to…are you saying you want to date?”
“Uh, no.” It came out too fast. “I’m not opposed. I mean, I have to talk to Jason first. I just wanted you to know.”
“Thanks,” he said. “If you need anything, let me know. I’m here for you. Are you going to, like, get it tested? Find out whose it is?”
“I haven’t decided. I don’t want anything from either of you, not really. But you needed to know.”
“Okay, cool. I got to think on this a bit myself.”
“I know. It’s a total bombshell to drop.” She almost apologized, but didn’t.
He made a move to leave, then a move towards her. Then he took her in his arms in a great big hug.
Now to find Jason. He wasn’t at the gym, and she didn’t know him as well. She gave him a call.
“Hey Kylie, to what do I owe the pleasure? Are you ready to take me up on my offer? I’ve got Tequila here.”
Unlike Max, Jason was a little more relaxed about the whole night. He knew none of them wanted anyone to know but that didn’t stop him from making jokes about that night. Especially when other people were around to make her feel uncomfortable.
“I’m looking for a few minutes of your time.”
    “Like…now?”
    “Yeah, if you’re free.”
“I’m kinda free…I’m up to my elbows in carburetor grease in my garage. If that works you can come by, if not, I can meet you someplace in a bit.”
    “Now’s good.”
He gave her the address and she and Rosie hit the road. He didn’t live far, and she found his place with ease. It was a nice house. Probably too big for a bachelor, but Jason seemed to be able to afford it by fixing motorcycles. True to his word, he was covered in grease and oil. His Harley sat off to one side, and he worked on a different bike, an older Yamaha.
“What up, K?” he said as she came into the shade of his garage.
“I’m pregnant.” Best to come out with it. Don’t dance around. Spit it out.
    “I see. And it’s mine?”
    She laughed. “Or Max’s.”
“Gotcha.” He headed to his workbench and picked up a rag. He began the process of cleaning his hands. “Are you okay?”
    “Actually I’m great. I wasn’t looking for this…I’m on the pill…but I’m not sad.”
“So you’re going to keep it.”
    “I am, yes.”
“Well.” He paused. “Sounds like congratulations are in order.”
“Thank you. I think they are.”
“What do you need from me?”
“Um,” she thought about it. “Nothing, I don’t think.”
    “Well cool.”
    “Yeah. Cool.”
“I guess now I know how my old man felt when he first heard about me.”
Kylie wanted to ask about it, but the moment felt heavy enough. The only thing she needed to do was tell them and go on with life. It didn’t matter what they thought really in the end. This was her choice, and this was going to be her baby.
Awkward. So awkward though. They kinda blinked at each other a moment more, then out in the driveway Rosie saw a cat and started barking. “I should go.”
“Ummm...Okay. Don’t be a stranger.” Jason said this trying to keep his casual and nonchalant usual self intact but was obviously as shaken as anyone would expect him to be in this situation.
    “Thanks.”
Kylie walked back to her car feeling relief that this part was now behind her.

    Round 5*
She saw them both on and off, but it was almost a month before they spent any real time together. It was a kickboxing class that focused on self-defense. Although most people who went to this gym were training to compete in an MMA tournament the gym also hosted some of these classes because they were popular and made
