sleep that night. My body was completely shattered. Brunas was every bit as destructive as Master had said. For thirteen seconds I was on par with a dragon in terms of raw power. Then the power left me and with that, I crumbled to the floor. Adria suffered the same effect but slightly less since she was only able to last ten seconds with Brunas active. Master had predicted correctly that it was close to impossible to hold the spell for long periods of time on the first try. Regardless of that, Master tested my Brunas to great lengths, even going as far as bathing me in his black flames and striking me with his tail.
When I wasn't training, Master was teaching me how to be a senior Dragon Rider. During one of his classes I learned that the name Dragon Knight was the name given to all members of the Order. Dragon Dealer is the lowest rank and Dragon Paladin was the highest given only to the very best. For the most part, all I learned was what my role would be in their training and what I was supposed to teach them. I wasn't sure what to expect from the two girls. I didn't have a high opinion of the Noble girl but the commoner was a different story. She was like me, an orphan. Her parents had died fighting in the border with the Irkanians, her mother was a well-known mage in the frontlines and the father was also a fairly respected healer. As for the Noble, her parents came from the House of Halla, also known as the Ice Dragon Knights. They were the founding members of Halla, the northern academy, with which they share the name and to this day serves as the chairman and directors of that academy. If I get lucky she will be like Axcel and at the worst like Eric.
New Arrivals
When the day had finally come for the new Knights to arrive, I woke up and headed to the mess hall. My friends were already there. It had become a habit ever since we started hanging out again. It was rare for the academy to accept transfer students and when they did, they were always either very powerful or already Dragon Knights. Gossip about the new students had already spread through the whole school and I was constantly bombarded with questions of when they would arrive, what they were like and if they would be joining the Dragon Knights.
“So Alex, do you think it's true that the new transfer students are going be Dragon Knights like you?” asked Daniel, a friend from the orphanage that had been selected into the commander’s branch.
“I can't really say Daniel. I mean it would be cool to have someone besides Master Shadow and I in the Sky Dome, but being a Knight can be hard sometimes. I am not sure everyone is cut out to be one.”
“It’s not so bad. You have the best dorm in the whole school. You get the best treatment and you’re also one of the strongest students. I would give up anything to be a Dragon Knight,” he replied.
“I guess you’re right. It is pretty cool when you put it that way, especially when I am strong enough to beat all of you,” I said pointing with my spoon at all my friends from the orphanage that were sitting at the table.
“Ha! You might be able to beat us, but not Adria. She's a natural and she has been training with you and that dragon. There is simply no way you could beat her, unless you have some sort of abilities that you haven't told us about,” said Daniel laughing.
“Who knows?” I said winking at Adria.
“He may or he may not. All I know is I am going to win in the examinations next week,” commented Max.
“Give it up Max. There is no way a healer can beat a Dragon Knight or a Natural battlemage. It's unheard of and in all of history only commanders and battlemages have been able to beat Knights in a one-on-one combat,” said Rod
“Like you would do any better, scribe? Besides I wasn’t counting on fighting them. Odds are they might end up fighting a Noble or each other. In the end they would be too tired to continue and it
