the crazy life he lived.
He swore to himself he wouldn’t allow any of the ugliness of his life to wear off on Kristen. She deserved the best and he would try to give her everything she wanted and desired. She was the most amazing woman he had ever met and he wanted her in his life.
The depth and intensity of his feelings still surprised him. He wanted to see if they would continue or lessen as time went by.

Kristen felt better now that things were settled with Logan. He had really changed. And all for her. He had always taken care of himself first before. But now he put her first and actually apologized. It was nothing short of a miracle.
She wouldn’t get her hopes up that he would promise his undying love, but his faithfulness would have to be enough for now. She never thought she would fall for someone who might never love her back but she had.
She loved Logan. And as long as he was hers and hers alone, she’d be happy.

    The Past Returns

Kristen and Logan fell into a routine over the next few days.
Their excitement for the opening day was high because everything they’d wanted for the Youth Center was coming to a head. Most of the programs and classes were full and there were a host of volunteers to help make it happen. Logan was even going to do a program himself and would schedule his work around it.
He had to get back to running his company after his hiatus in prison and helping Kristen get the Center where they wanted it to be. He had people who could look after his business for him and they had a lot of success, but he needed to be more hands on. He also wanted Kristen to know that the Center was her project and he was really only a donor.
The mayor was there to cut the ribbon. When the doors to the Youth Center opened, people piled in for the tour. Everyone was very supportive and admiring. There would be write-ups in several state and national newspapers. Kristen glowed from the positive response they received and Logan was blissed out by extension.
He should have known such happiness wouldn’t last unblemished. At sunset, when nearly everyone had gone, Logan got an unwanted visitor.
He was talking to one of the people from the neighborhood when he felt a cold chill down his spine. He could feel someone’s eyes on him. He turned slowly and a wave of nausea swept over him.
There he was, the monster. The man who had killed his brother and put him in prison.
He smiled at Logan. “Hello, son, nice place you have here. I can’t believe you didn’t invite your old man to the opening.”
Logan’s voice caught in his throat. All the old emotions came rushing back, the pain, the humiliation and the hate. Logan opened his mouth, closed it and then whispered, “Get out or I’ll have you removed.”

Kristen noticed Logan going rigid in the hall and only just stopped herself from clacking across the floor as fast as her heels could carry her. A middle-aged man stood there, non-descript, totally unremarkable. Who was he and why was Logan poised to lunge for his throat? She reached them and threaded her fingers through Logan’s on instinct. He was tense.
“Is there a problem?” she said, looking at Logan with concern. He was so pale.
“Not a problem. He was just leaving.”
“That’s rude of you, Logan,” the man said. Kristen decided she disliked his voice, his smirk, and his hands. Her hackles rose. “I raised you better than that. I’m George, Logan’s father. And you are?”  The man held out his hand for her. Unsurprisingly, Logan pulled Kristen away from him.
“You are not my father and you didn’t raise me at all. Stay away from me. I’ll have a restraining order taken out against you.”
Kristen looked at Logan in confusion. She didn’t know the story but she wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt Logan, and this man had obviously hurt
