pretty bathroom?”
“Shut up.” Leo shoves Adrian, and now they’re both laughing while I’m so terribly confused.
I don’t get it. One minute he can’t stop touching and kissing me, then out of nowhere he wants to leave. What is up with him?
    “What was that?” I ask.
When we’re a little further away from his brother, he says, “Just a little distraction.”
    I wince. “For who?”
“You. Me. Him and my family.”
    “I’m confused.”
“My brother saw it, no way in hell he’s going to keep quiet. Especially now that I said that he can’t tell her, which is exactly what I want. It’s a sure way to make them believe we’re a couple.”
“Oh …” I mumble. “Is that it?”
He glances at me shortly, a look of confusion flashing on his face, but then his parents call out his name and he’s lost in the game again.
We’ll have to talk about this sometime. I’m not going to let something like this slip through my fingers again. Once we get back to the hotel, he’s going to tell me exactly what in the hell that was and if it was anything more than just part of the play. I won’t take no for an answer.

Chapter 13

When we get to the hotel, the huge double bedroom in the suite he booked is a welcome sight. I’m beat and about ready to crawl into bed and snuggle my pillow like it’s a giant marshmallow. Hmm … god, why did I think about that? Now I’m hungry again.
Leo throws his keys on the table as I throw my purse on the couch and sigh. A nice, warm bath would be great before I go to sleep, but first there’s something else I need to do.
“So, are you ready to talk now?” I say.
    “What?” he asks.
I put my hands on my side. “Well, I’m not just going to let you do that to me.”
“What are you talking about?” he frowns.
I roll my eyes. “Have you already forgotten? Right,” I scoff. “Of course. That’s typical.”
“Sam, explain. I’m not up for games right now.”
“Me, neither,” I hiss, throwing him a glance.
“I don’t understand what you’re getting at. Honestly,” he says, rolling up his sleeves.
“Of course, you don’t. I should’ve realized that. Sorry I even started this.” I sigh and turn around, taking off my coat.
“What? Can you just stop and tell me what the hell it is you’re talking about?”
“I’m talking about you and what you do.”
“What do I do, exactly?” he says, shrugging.
“Really?” I turn around and make a face. “You’re going to pretend you don’t know?”
“No, because I don’t, and it’d be nice if you’d just tell me what the hell is going on.”
“This. This is my problem. You don’t know what’s going on, that’s the problem.”
He shakes his head, chuckling to himself.
“Are you laughing? Is this funny to you?” I say. “Never mind.” Grinding my teeth, I turn around and look at myself in the mirror standing in the corner so I can take off my make-up.
“Sam … c’mon, you’re angry at me for not knowing what you’re angry for.”
    “Exactly.”
He sighs. “That’s kind of childish.”
    “And your games aren’t?”
    “What games?”
“What you did in the bathroom!” I yell, making a fist.
“What I did … Oh.” He nods slowly. “ That. ”
“Yes, that. And all the other times.”
    “Sam …”
I can’t help but turn around to face him again. I want to look him in the face when he tells me he did it all to fool his parents, and that none of what I’m feeling is real. “No, don’t Sam me. I just want to know when this is all done. When you’re finished playing around.”
“I’m not playing around, but this is important to me.”
“Well, I’m done,” I say. “I can’t do it anymore. I can’t pretend to be your wife. I was horrible at it anyway. I mean, look at me. Do I look like wife material to you? I was a bumbling mess.”
“No …” He cocks his head and smiles at me. “You did fine. Is that what you’re worried about?”
    Somehow, I
