I’m fuckin ’ pissed that I let her get me fuckin ’ pissed. I’ve never let it get to me. Never given
a
fuck what anyone thought or said.
    I
see you.
    You
don’t fuck the willing.
    Soul
of my soul, Lucifer.
    The
last fuckin ’ thing I’m gonna do is lay around overthinkin ’ shit.
I pull open the drawer where I stash my gun and grab a bottle of
sleeping
pills. Gunny’s the club dealer and no matter what you want, he has the good
shit. I pop a few in my mouth and swallow them down. I hope they work fuckin ’ fast, or I’ll have to tie my own ass to my bed,
so
I don’t go to the basement every ten fuckin ’
minutes
to see if my bitch bolted yet.
    I
lie down and pull a bottle of Jack out from under my pillow. Nothin ’ better than washin ’
down
pills with Jack.
    Tomorrow’s
the fuckin ’ toy drive, and the gates will come
open
for the public. Won’t be any time for Butch to send the brothers out to hunt
down my bitch. He’ll have to smile and pretend his club of merry fuckin ’ men are upright citizens who aren’t the last fuckin ’ cocksuckers on earth who should be handin ’ out teddy bears and baby dolls.
    With
my eyelids growin ’ fuckin ’
heavy, I take one big pull from the bottle and put it away. In my mind, I
picture opening the basement door tomorrow and findin ’
it empty and my bitch gone. She has to be fuckin ’
gone. I’d rather shoot her dead than hand her beautiful ass over to any
other
man in the world.

    EIGHT

    I
wake to fuckin ’ pounding on my door. “Get your ass
up!” It’s Butch.
    Feels
like my body’s wrapped in a lead blanket. Sleepin ’
pills and Jack knocked my ass right out.
    “Luc!”
Butch yells, knocking more.
“I’m comin ’! Fuck,” I say, stumbling to the door. “Let
a
man get out of bed.” It doesn’t hit me until I see his face. Something’s fuckin ’ wrong. Then my fuckin ’
hazy-ass head clears enough to remember, and I don’t know if I’m fuckin ’ happy or want to climb back under that lead fuckin ’ blanket and sleep for the rest of my sorry-ass
life.
    Bitch
is gone.
    She
has to be.
    “What
is it?” I ask.
“ Fuckin ’ toy drive,” he says. “Alice went to the storage
locker to get the toys and can’t fit ‘ em all in
her
car. I need you to take the van down and help her out.”
    My
mind is fuckin ’ jumpin ’
all
over the place. Is my bitch still in the basement, or is she gone? “I gotta
get
downstairs. You said yourself, no time to waste. Someone else needs to help
Alice. Send fuckin ’ Randy.”
    He
shoves a hand against my shoulder, keepin ’ me from walkin ’ past him. “You ain’t trainin ’ today. You’re lockin ’
that bitch up tight and nobody’s goin ’ near that
basement.”
    “Fine.
I gotta go down and lock her ass up tight then.”
    “I
don’t know what your fuckin ’ problem is, Luc, but
you ain’t never been so insubordinate in the past.”
    “ Insub --”
    “I’ll
go help Alice,” Meat says, standin ’ at the end of
the
hallway, listenin ’. “I got nothing else to do
right
now.”
    Butch
eyes me and shakes his head. “Watch yourself,” he says, then walks down the
hall, takes the keys out of his pocket and tosses them to Meat.
    I
don’t need this shit. Motherfucker gives me one week to get a bitch and
train
her, then does nothin ’ but fuckin ’
take a shit on me every chance he gets. He’s going
to
get his when I leave him holdin ’ his dick in his
hand
without a bitch to hand over to the cartel.
After takin ’ a piss and gettin ’
cleaned up, I head out of the clubhouse right behind Meat. “Don’t worry
about
Butch,” he says. “He’s all fuckin ’ stressed about
today.”
    “Yeah,”
I say, not payin ’ attention. I gotta see if my
bitch
is gone.
    He
holds out his fist for me to hit with mine. “I’ll save ya a candy cane,
brother,” he says, grinning that fuckin ’
quarterback
grin of his. “Cheer you the fuck up.”
    I
can’t help but chuckle
