leave this car,” Lacey screams. “Please!”
I look back at my friends, the wind from the open door sending my hair flying everywhere. I take in their worried looks. “Take care of Booker.”
“No,” they scream, and as I’m about to jump out the door, I hear sirens, so I pause and look back to Lacey and she nods.
“The police are here…” she sighs, “…and the guys are following.”
“He’s leaving,” Roxie adds, and I close the door, looking behind me at Troy and see him slowing down and taking the next corner. The police emerge and Roxie pulls over, breathing a sigh of relief when we come to a stop.
She leans over and holds me in her arms. “Don’t you dare fucking scare me like that again, you got me?”

Chapter Twelve

The girls surround me, crying as we talk to the police. One car followed Troy, but as far as I know, they haven’t caught up with him.
“I don’t give a shit! I want to talk to her,” I hear Booker. Turning around I see him pushing past another police officer.
“Let him through,” I order and with one last look, the officer lets Booker by. He’s then followed by Tate, Cole, and Mason, who holds baby Quin in his arms.
Booker literally runs up to me, capturing me in his arms and kissing me on the forehead. Everyone looks at us, wondering what’s going on, and for the first time I really don’t care. The girls all watch us with happy expressions, because of course, I’ve told them what’s been happening between Booker and me, but the guys still don’t know.
Tate’s actually frowning at Booker right now and pushes him to the side. “She’s my sister, bro, let me in,” Tate complains as he grabs me close and breathes out a stuttered breath. Over Tate’s shoulder, I see Booker’s red face and tight lips as he takes a step to remove Tate from me, but before I can do anything Cole stops Booker and holds him back. He shakes his head in a silent warning, and thankfully Booker calms. I’m glad, because although Booker’s worried about me, so is my brother and he deserves to be able to check to see if I’m fine as much as he does.
    “I’m fine,” I insist.
“She is now,” Roxie complains. “The fool was going to throw herself out the car, so Troy could get her.”
“Troy?” both Tate and Booker ask in unison. Booker’s voice is a low growl, whereas Tate is simply asking. Of course, he doesn’t know about Troy, but I have told Booker Troy is an ex.
Roxie’s eyes widen as she realizes she’s said too much, but I’m not mad. Perhaps this is the right time to explain everything. After all, I can’t exactly lie my way out of it now even if I tried.
“Yes, it was my ex driving the car behind us.” I look to my brother and Booker.
“Why would he be following you?” asks Booker.
“Hold up,” Tate shouts. “Who the fuck is Troy?”
Taking a deep, steadying breath, I look to Tate and begin to explain, “Troy is my ex. I met him when you first went on tour.”
“And why’s this the first time I’ve heard his name?” asks Tate.
“Hey, let her talk, yeah?” adds Booker, coming to stand beside me.
Tate looks between us, his eyes flickering while he tries to figure this out. “What is it with you two?”
“That doesn’t matter right now. We need to get home and get Crystal to safety,” Lacey insists.
“Why isn’t she safe?” Tate frowns. “Is this Troy fucker scaring you?”
I sadly nod and feel like shit because Tate looks so confused. “He’s been threatening me.”
Booker tenses beside me as I watch the emotions on Tate’s face, and I imagine if I look up, Booker’s face will reflect exactly the same.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” asks Booker. “Is this why you’ve been on edge all the time?”
I nod, beginning to feel emotional. “Yes. He’s been calling me nonstop, stalking me, and now when he was following us in the car, he ordered me to hand myself over to him. He wants me back, but I can’t go back. I hate
