too dangerous to look at them in school and risk exposing my identity. I opened each letter, and they all sounded like they could have been written by the same person.
Dear Know-It-All,
Help! Iâve been cursed! I canât find my assignment pad anywhere.

Dear Know-It-All,
Everythingâs been going wrong since Mr. Cougarâs paw was broken. I donât know what to do. My dad yelled at me for my messy room. Iâm so cursed!
âMy Lifeâs a Mess
Dear Know-It-All,
How long do curses last? Because I need the Cougar Curse to end right away. I have a math test next week and I donât want to fail another one.

I looked at the Dear Know-It-All e-mails that Mr. Trigg had screened for me, and theywerenât any better. It was bad enough that Michael was giving me a hard time with the cougar story. I thought Dear Know-It-All might be the easy assignment this time around. I was obviously mistaken.
Michael looked a little more like his old self the next day at school.
âHey, Pasty,â he greeted me. âDid you hear the big news?â
âNope, what happened?â I asked.
âI told Coach Dixon about the cost of fixing Mr. Cougar,â Michael explained, âand that the school wouldnât be able to afford it. He had a great idea.â
âWhat was it?â I asked.
âThe teamâs going to try to raise some of the money ourselves,â Michael answered. âWeâre going to have a fund-raiser.â
âThat is a great idea,â I agreed. âHow are you going to raise the money?â
âWe thought a car wash would be fun,â Michael said. âWe can do it in the school parking lot. Coachsaid heâd even let us count it as a practice.â
âDo what in the school parking lot?â Hailey asked.
Michael and I hadnât even seen her coming. Anthony Wright was by Haileyâs side. Great timing, BFFâjust when Michael Lawrence was beginning to seem like his old self for a minute.
âHi, Anthony!â I said cheerfully. âDonât you and Hailey have some important school business to conduct?â
âHi, Samantha,â Anthony replied. âActually, we do. Mr. Pfeiffer said that he wanted to talk to us about an important issue.â
âItâs probably Mr. Cougar,â Michael told them. âThe school canât afford to fix him. But the football team wants to have a car wash in the parking lot to raise money for the repairs. We wonât get it all, but at least it will be a start.â
âI like it,â Anthony said. âIâll let Mr. Pfeiffer know that you have the support of the student government.â
âI like it too,â Hailey agreed. âI just wonder if thereâs a way to get more students involved. TheCougar Curse doesnât just affect the football team, after all.â
âHaileyâs right,â I said. âI know a lot of other kids whoâd like the curse to end.â
âWhat about a bake sale?â Anthony suggested.
âPerfect, partner,â said Hailey. âSam, we can make your Momâs Delish Dream Bars! I can smell them now!â
âRelax, Hailey,â I said. âWe donât even know if Mr. Pfeiffer will approve any of this yet.â
Hailey gets a bit out of control when it comes to sugary snacks. Her momâs a bit of a health-food nut, and Haileyâs dessert options usually consisted of a choice between fruit salad or trail mix.
âI donât think Mr. Pfeiffer will have an objection,â Anthony said. âHailey and I will bring it up to him in our meeting later. Iâll let you both know if he gives it a green light.â
âThanks. I appreciate it,â Michael said. âIâd do anything to stop the Cougar Curse.â
âIâd do anything to get a bite of a dream bar.â Hailey laughed.
âWell, Iâd like to get a bite of a
