are you talking about?” The words came out a lot faster than she intended.

“Your design, silly. I think your stuff is amazing you know.”

“Oh, right.” She handed him the iPad and started picking at one of her nails.

Jackson took the iPad with him to his seat across the table from her, looking at it. He hadn’t looked at his phone yet. Would he suspect she’d seen it? What if he confronted her about spying on him?

Calm down, she told herself. He’s the one that’s doing something wrong, not you.

He still hadn’t looked at the phone yet. “Wow, this is so good. Your mom would be crazy to not help you get started up with this.”

“You think?” She perked up, forgetting about the text message for a second.

    “Definitely. This is cutting edge.”

“Well,” she said, “maybe you could help me out then.”

He shook his head. “Sorry, kiddo. Your mom would kill me. And my money is mostly tied up in other things.”

His phone vibrated again and he picked it up, a slight grin crept over his mouth as he looked at it. Then he shot a glance over to Lilly and put the phone in his pocket then handed the iPad back across the table to her. “I’m sorry. It really is good. You should keep at it, maybe your mom will change her mind someday.”

“I doubt it,” she said. “You know how she is.”

“Yeah, I do.” He stood up.

Trying to be as casual as possible, Lilly said, “What are you up to tonight.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “Not much. I might have a friend over.”

A friend? A friend that talks about his cock? That sounded like more than a friend to her. “Oh? Anyone I know?” Feeling really nosey now but this was scandalous.

“No, I don’t think you know them.” He gave her a forced smile then left quickly.

It was obvious he wanted to avoid the subject. This was pretty damning evidence that he was having an affair. Whatever. It was his life. She’d always wondered if he and Mother even had sex anymore. They barely touched each other. She looked at her dress again. It was good. She knew it was. But she needed some support to actually take it somewhere.

That night, Lilly was laying on the couch watching TV in the living room when Jackson came downstairs wearing a blazer and a nice pair of jeans, his hair fixed perfectly. “Hey,” he said to her.

She sat up when he came down. “Wow, you’re all dressed up.”

“What this?” Looking down at himself. “No, not really. I’m just going out for a drink.”

    “With your friend?”

“My friend?” He stared at her, a confused look on his face.

“Yeah, you said you were going to meet up with a friend earlier.”

“Oh, right. Yeah, my friend.” He went over to the bar and poured himself a drink then sat down on the couch next to her.

He smelled nice and the way he was dressed made him look super sexy. He was always sexy but right now she couldn’t help but get a little turned on. Whoever the girl was he was fucking was lucky to be getting with him. She tried to imagine what it would be like. He was probably a very attentive lover.

The door bell rang and he started to get up but Lilly jumped up saying she’d get it, running towards the door. She looked back over her shoulder and he was hurrying after her but he had the drink in his hand and that was slowing him down. Now she was going to see who this mystery woman was that wanted his cock. This J person.

She grabbed the handle and flung the door open, smiling in anticipation. Standing there on the porch was a Latino man wearing a purple shirt and a gold chain, a toothpick stuck between his lips.

“Oh, hello,” he said, holding a limp hand out to her, speaking in that stereotypical effeminate manner gay men sometimes used.

Her mouth open, eyes wide, she realized she was staring then finally held her hand out to the man. “Hi,” she managed.

“Are you okay mommy? You look like you seen a ghost or something. It’s just me
