wonder whether her choice of attire had been a wise one. Though she had checked on the likely temperatures for the Caribbean at this time of the year, she was sure that it was hotter than the 30 degrees the long-range forecasts had advised it was likely to be.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the cart to pull out into a wide clearing, which soon turned into a short driveway that led up to the palace itself. The building looked like an old Spanish hacienda. The white stucco walls were punctuated with several archways and expansive shuttered windows. Both the main building itself and the smaller ones to the side – which looked like staff quarters – were topped by ochre-red slates that soaked up the sun’s rays. The overall effect was quite grand, yet in an understated manner that Nikki rather liked.
Her cart came to a halt and Nikki alighted. As the second vehicle pulled up beside the first, Matt got out, grabbed the luggage, and then guided her into the palace. He explained that the building had been authentically reproduced in the style of the 18th-century haciendas of the West Coast of America. As soon as they set foot in the main hall, Nikki slipped off her heels, to allow her feet to cool down on the tiled floor. The main hallway was sparsely furnished, relatively speaking. The only things of note were two large paintings, which hung on the far wall, and a drinks cabinet. Placing the bags down on the tiles, Matt crossed over to the cabinet. He opened the fridge and extracted a couple of bottles of chilled water.
    ‘Fancy one?’ he asked.
    ‘Please,’ she replied.
Playfully, Matt threw her a bottle. She caught it deftly in her right hand and then pressed the chilled plastic to her temple. The iced bottle felt lovely against her warm skin. Matt drank his water in one go. A trickle dribbled down his chin and onto his shirt.
    ‘Messy,’ she remarked.
‘I thought you liked messy,’ he said.
    ‘What makes you say that?’
    ‘The plane.’
Nikki pursed her lips together, the only way she could stop herself from laughing.
Matt wandered back across the hallway, picked up the cases, and led her up the stairway. At the top of the landing, he turned left and marched along to the end of the corridor. He paused as he took hold of the door handle. ‘Roxanna has put you in the room she calls the Paradise Suite. I hope you like it.’
Matt opened the door and invited her to enter. As with the hall below, Nikki found the décor of the room stunningly simple. Other than the super king-sized bed, which rested against the right-hand wall, the only other items of furniture were two wicker chairs, a large wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a bedside cabinet, a dresser, and a sizeable wooden table upon which lay an incredible array of sex toys. There were vibrators, cock rings, dildos, handcuffs, whips, peephole bras, crotchless panties, anal beads, love eggs, blindfolds, butt-plugs, ankle restraints, strap-ons, gags, riding crops, and a whole host of other items, one or two of which Nikki had never seen before and could only guess as to their purpose. Much as she was enjoying Matt’s company, a part of her longed for him to leave her alone so that she could experiment with some of the items on display.
Matt couldn’t resist asking, ‘Is there anything in particular that catches your eye?’
    ‘Maybe,’ she replied coyly.
Tearing her eyes away from the table, Nikki crossed over to the magnificent balcony that ran virtually the length of the far left-hand wall of the room. The view from it was breathtaking. She wandered out onto the balcony to admire the vista. The crystal-blue sea and cloudless, sapphire sky contrasted wonderfully with the verdant foliage of the coconut and palm trees. The sun seemed to add an extra lustre to everything, its rays sparkling off both the sea and the deep-green leaves.
Matt placed the bags down next to the bed and then crossed over to her side. ‘I take it that you
