Rosie was trying to calm Victor down.
âMs. Blanchard.â Rosie looked relieved.
âItâs okay, Rosie. Iâm here.â
âThank you.â She took off.
âHello, Victor. What brings you by, besides getting another chance to terrorize my maid?â
At five feet, six inches and dressed like a chic preppy in a polo shirt and Dockers, Victor didnât look like a diva until he put his hands on his hips. âFor one thing, you can tell me why youâre making my life miserable.â
âHow am I making your life miserable?â
âI spent all day at the gallery trying to figure out how to stage the exhibit now that youâve upset the balance of the universe.â
She looked at him. âIâve upset the balance of the universe ?â
âOkay, youâve upset my universe. Iâve done my feng shui and I finally have the perfect flow of fifteen. Then you go and add one more.â
âCome now, Victor, itâs not like I added twenty more. Itâs one artist and we have the space.â
âThatâs not the point.â
âThen tell me what the point is?â
He stopped to think.
âIâm waiting.â Gabby tapped her feet.
âOkay. So there isnât a problem. I just wanted to register my complaint. We have been doing the future fifteen for six years or something, you know.â
âI know, Victor, but we can embrace change, canât we?â She put her arm around his shoulder.
âYou know, whenever you do that I never know whether youâre going to kill me or hug me. You must be at least four inches taller than me.â
âIâm four and a half inches taller than you,â she corrected.
âI stand corrected. No pun intended.â
She began walking him to the door. âVictor, you have plenty of time to pull it together and make it fabulous like only you can.â
âAre you playing to my ego?â
âYes. Is it working?â
âYes.â
âIâm glad weâve come to an understanding.â
âMe, too,â he said as he opened the door. âWait a second.â He bent down and picked up a bouquet of roses. âLook what I found.â
âWas that here before?â
âNo, I think I would have noticed. Itâs a huge bouquet.â He handed her the flowers. âThereâs a card.â
The heady fragrance of the flowers overwhelmed her senses. âTheyâre intoxicating.â She opened the card.
Looking forward to tomorrow night. Nigel.
Gabby felt herself blush.
Victor was intrigued. âOh, was it X-rated?â
âNo. It was sweet.â
âIt smells like romance is in the air this summer.â
âIndeed it is, Victor, and I for one am going to take as many deep breaths as possible.â She beamed.

Lauren had gone through the contents of her closet without coming to a decision. She flopped onto her bed. âWhat am I going to wear?â She let out a heavy sigh. âThereâs only one thing to do.â She picked up the phone.
Alicia was working on her laptop, surrounded by reports. âHello?â
âHelp me, Alicia. I donât know what to wear.â She sounded desperate.
âYouâre kidding me, right? What time is he picking you up?â
âEight oâclock.â
Alicia looked at the clock. âItâs almost seven-thirty. Youâre cutting it close. Please tell me you have your makeup on.â
âI do.â
Alicia was quiet for a moment. âWhat about that IGIGI outfit with the georgette blouse and pencil skirt? I think that would be sexy and romantic.â
The light went on over Laurenâs head. âI completely forgot Iâd ordered it. I must have blown right by it.â
âYou have a sickness when it comes to clothes, Lauren. How is it you canât remember what you just bought?â
âI know.â Lauren looked over at her closet,
