âHere, take this home with you. Maybe Sally would like to try your Momâs jambalaya, too.â
âThanks, Mr. H.â He kissed his mom again. âRemember to take it easy.â
âI will.â
Kurt walked out with Harrison.
Alicia turned to Lauren. âDonât forget to call me. I want to hear all the details, unless of course youâre otherwise occupied.â She had a glint in her eye.
âA dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste, Alicia,â she said drolly.
âBut itâs mine to waste. Have a good time.â
âThanks.â She kissed her on the cheek and headed out.
She met up with Harrison and Kurt in the driveway.
âYou have a good time tonight, Lauren. Iâll keep working on her majesty in there.â He kissed her and hugged Kurt before he went back inside.
Kurt opened Laurenâs car door. âHere you go, Auntie.â
She mussed up his hair. âYouâre still such a good boy,â she said as she got into the car.
He closed her door. âThanks. Maybe you can help with my mom, too. It kills me to think of her alone.â
âIâll do my best. You know how stubborn she is. However, I can promise you that Gabby and I will tag-team her.â
âThanks, Auntie. Have a good time tonight. Drive safe.â
âI will.â She put the car in gear.

Gabby sat at her kitchen table going through photos sheâd taken of the artists she and Nigel had seen earlier in the day. She couldnât help but smile when she came across a photo of her and Nigel one of the artists had taken for them. âHe is cute,â she said softly.
âDo you need something, Ms. Blanchard?â Rosie, Gabbyâs petite brunette maid, entered the room.
âNo, Rosie. Iâm fine.â
âVery good, maâam.â
The phone rang. Rosie answered and handed it to her. âHello?â
âHey there. Youâve been awfully quiet today. Howâs it going?â Alicia lay back on her bed.
âHey, Alicia, Iâm good.â
âDid you find the next big thing in art?â
âI wouldnât say that, though I did see some good stuff.â
Her happy tone made Alicia smile. âI can hear you grinning. Whatâs up?â
âHow can you hear someone grin?â she asked, incredulous.
âItâs just the way you sound. You always have that little lilt in your voice when you smile.â
âWe have known each other a long time, havenât we?â
âYes. Now spill the beans.â
âI ran into Nigel in the park.â
âIt must have been kismet at work. I mean, what are the chances youâd run into him in Central Park? That is where you were, right?â
âYes.â
âGo on.â
âWe spent the morning and some of the afternoon together, talking, looking at artistsâ¦â
âDid you have lunch?â
âNot exactly. We had a couple of ice cream sundaes.â
âSounds sweet. No pun intended.â
âWe had fun and the time flew by.â
âIt always does when youâre having fun, my dear. So how did you leave things?â
âWeâre having dinner tomorrow night.â
âFantastic,â she exclaimed. âHmm, there must be something in the air this summer.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âI take it you havenât spoken to Lauren.â
âNo. Whatâs going on? Did she and Ken get back together?â
âHardly. He served her with divorce papers.â
âWhat? How is she?â
âSheâs fine. In fact, Iâd venture to say sheâs as right as rain.â
âAm I missing something?â
âShe met someone who took her mind off Ken Jones.â
âWho did she meet?â
âRandy Rivera.â
âHeâs the chef owner of Ricardoâs, isnât he?â
âYes.â
âWow. Tell me more.â
âIâve already told
