    The music was louder tonight in the club. Cate sat
between Torrance and Doc, and they all laughed at the joke Justin had just told.
He stroked the hair out of Henrietta’s face, as she looked up at him adoringly
from the floor. Her eye contact was brief, but the expression stayed on her
face.
    Benjamin held Penelope’s hand on the table and they
moved closer to each other. Torrance watched her whisper something into her
husband’s ear and he nodded. “Well, now that we’re all together, Penny and I
have an announcement to make.” He looked over at her. “You tell them.”
    Penny brushed her dark hair over her shoulder and
looked at all of them. “We’re going to have a baby.”
    Cate started clapping and the excitement rose among them
all. The night had been so good. It was the third time that week that Torrance
and Cate had come, and he realized that she was quickly becoming friends with
his group. They embraced her like she’d been there from the beginning, and it
felt so right. Like she was meant to be there.
    “Congratulations,” Cate said. “You both must be so
excited.”
    “We are.” Penny brought her husband’s hand to her
lips. “We’ve been trying now for years. You know, they always say whenever you
stop trying, it happens. Well, it finally happened. It’s a miracle, really.
We’ve tried everything with no success.”
    “That’s amazing.” Cate smiled and looked up at him.
As she went back to talking to Penelope, he couldn’t stop staring at her. He’d
never felt so strongly about a woman. And he’d been with plenty over the years.
There was just something about her that sucked him in and left him captivated.
    Doc tapped his shoulder, and Torrance looked behind
Cate’s back to see him. He motioned with his head and Torrance moved in closer.
“Walk to the bar with me.”
    Torrance nodded and picked up Cate’s hand. He leaned
in and whispered in her ear. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to the bar with
Doc. You want anything?” His nose nuzzled her ear and he felt her shiver
underneath him. At her response, he felt himself harden. It was the little
