had been filled with the awareness of him since
they had first met, and he seemed to know that. She had fought the attraction of him and probably would
have been able to go on fighting it if he hadn’t chosen to overwhelm her like this. But of course he had
chosen this method. York Sutherland knew tactics.
He sat down on the bed beside her and Selena instinctively tucked her legs beneath her, kneeling in a
position that suggested flight at any moment. Seeing that, York reached out, caught her lightly around the
waist, and tumbled her down onto her back. Her chestnut hair fanned out on the quilt.
„Didn’t you guess I’d come after you?“ he asked thickly as he sprawled across her and cupped her face
between rough palms. „Tell me the truth.“
„No,“ she denied, her pulses pounding in response to the weight of his body on hers. „How could I have
    guessed?“
„And you thought you had me so thoroughly pegged,“ he scoffed, lowering his head to seal her mouth
    with his own.
This time his kiss was a slow, drugging caress that swept her into a whirlpool. She moaned into his
mouth and he drank the sound of implicit surrender with masculine eagerness. His hand moved under the
edge of the blue-green shirt and found the tip of her unconfined breast. It budded to life at his touch, and
Selena felt the tautening sensation radiating deep into her thighs.
Slowly, with compelling urgency, York undressed her, rising for a moment to tug off her heeled boots
and jeans. When she lay beneath his gaze wearing only the now-opened shirt and delicate lace panties, he
went to work on his own clothes. His eyes never left her and he kept one palm moving with teasing
roughness across her breasts and over the slope of her stomach as he tugged off his flannel shirt and
unclasped the belt at his waist.
The hand he kept on her was a chain, Selena knew. It was a bond that maintained the link he was
establishing while he prepared to strengthen that link with the act of physical possession. She watched him
from beneath heavy lashes as he peeled away his clothing, presenting himself boldly to her gaze.
And her artistic eye found a seductive pleasure in the sight of him. She could not deny it. Before she
could stop herself, she lifted a hand and trailed questioning fingertips across his shoulder and down through
the tapering, curling hair on his chest. He was lean and supple, and the strength in him was incredibly
enticing to the feminine core of her. The dangerous fascination was flowing around her, making the
    possibility of escape uninteresting.
„The wanting has just about driven me crazy during the past few weeks,“ he told her hoarsely, catching
hold of her questing hand and stilling it as it dropped to his thigh. „Every time I saw you throw away your
smiles on Anderson, I felt like kidnapping you and taking you away to a place where there would be only
me to smile at. You have the most beautiful smile, sweetheart, full of warmth and gentleness. And you
seemed to smile at everyone but me!“
Selena couldn’t help it. The smile he seemed so enthralled with touched her lips. „Braces,“ she confided.
Incomprehension replaced the emerald fires of his eyes just as he was bending to kiss the hardening
    crest of her breast. „Braces!“
„I wore them for two years. Cost my parents a fortune. I’m sure they would be delighted to know you
    like the resulting smile!“
Nothing of the passion in him dimmed, yet Selena could have sworn she felt him relax in some manner
as he studied the hesitant humor in her gaze. A slow, wicked grin curved across his face. „What happens if
I praise the glowing gold of your blue-and-green eyes?” A strange tingle of relief spread through Selena as
he responded to the banter. „Why, then I tell you about the contact lenses I’m wearing,“ she murmured.
He nodded, eyes glinting as he deliberately drew a path down her breast to her hip. „Anything else I
    ought to
