hands.
“You can take a seat over here Miss Young, I’ll tell Mr. Simpson you’re here to see him,” he smiled and left to take the long winding staircase.
Instead of sitting down, she gazed at the room in front of her. There was a grand fireplace that was at the moment dormant, and was accompanied by furniture that matched the stone of the furnace, a glowing red and hazel. The man had great taste, and wondered if he had had a woman decorate the inside of his mansion or not?
“Miss Young,” Jordan Simpson came down the stairs quickly, and stood in front of her, “to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“I…” she faltered and felt lost in his smile that seemed so genuine and warm.
“This is a thank you, for the money,” she ended with a whisper and handed him the card that now seemed trivial compared to what he had done for her.
Jordan opened it slowly and gazed at the card, before looking back at her, “I must say that I have never received a card before after giving money to someone. Thank you.”
“Thank you Mr. Simpson,” she replied with a small blush.
“Just call me Jordan,” he winked and opened his arms, “would you like a tour? I promise there is more to this house than what the entrance alludes too.”
She found herself nodding and following him around like a puppy as he showed her all the grand rooms, each different with color and still maintaining a rustic look. It was beyond beautiful, something Melea would only dream of owning one day.
“So tell me about yourself Melea?” Jordan said as he took her upstairs and they walked out onto the balcony that overlooked his grand garden in the back and pool that was off to the side.
“What would you like to know sir?” she answered back, still aware that manners were needed, despite the personal conversation they were having.
“Anything, I know you want to become a vet,” he smiled warmly, not commenting on how he had been addressed.
“It’s been my dream since I was little,” she sighed, “I’m the second oldest of four and the only girl. My father died when I was fourteen, and my mom has been fortunate enough to be able to send us all through school. From there we have to find our own ways to pay for a higher degree.”
“What does your older brother do?” He asked in interest.
“Construction sir, he really enjoys building things, maybe a little too much,” she giggled, remembering how Marcus had always enjoyed Legos from the age of three and had never stopped building things since.
“I’m sorry about your father,” Jordan murmured softly, “I’m sure that must have been hard.”
“For my mom yes,” she admitted, “but for the four of us… I’m not so sure. He was always working to help with finances you know?”
He nodded and couldn’t help but feel utter sympathy for this woman. She was trying her best to support her family it seemed along with her brother and wanted to find another way to help them out somehow without Melea finding offense to it.
“Are your two younger brothers in college?”
“No sir, they’re twins, and are in their senior year of high school.”
He nodded, “well let me know what they end up wanting to do. I know plenty of people in Universities who are always giving scholarships to those who need them or aren’t aware of the ones that are available for students.”
Melea felt tears brim in her eyes; this man wanted to help her family with college which was more than anything her mother would ever hope for. She secretly hoped that when she was older, Melea would find a man as generous and kind as him.
“Have lunch with me Miss Young?” he held his hand out to her to finish the tour.
“I would love too,” she said breathless and gazing back at his eyes again.
Melea found herself entering her apartment later that evening. After saying goodbye to Jordan she had ran some errands and then imagined herself being back at the mansion in its entire splendor. He had been nothing but a
