out? Opening her eyes, she lifted the sheets to look him over. Then came a knock at the front door. She lay frozen for a moment until the second knock launched her from the bed to look out the window. She spotted Jillian’s car in the driveway next to her own car, which Brian had borrowed. They were back.
    "Get up!"
He didn’t move. Returning to bed, she pushed hard on his chest. His eyes shot open. Seeing her naked body, he groggily smiled. "You want to do it again?"
    "No! Your mother’s here."
    "What?"
    "She’s at the front door."
    "Just don’t answer it."
"Your car’s outside. We have to let her in, or she’ll think—"
"What, that we fucked?" He stared up at her with a grin.
"We can’t tell her about this!"
    "I won’t tell her."
Pushing hard, she drove him off the bed with strength she didn't know she possessed. "Now put something on and get back out to that sofa now."
From his knees, he glanced up at her in shock. "Okay. Jesus."
A louder knock at the door startled her. "I’ll get the door. You get out of here and put something on."
He rushed from the room as she went to her dresser.

Victoria wore old sweatpants and a sweatshirt as she opened the door to find Jillian wearing a sad, concerned look. "Is he here?"
"Yes." Victoria stepped aside. Rob sat up from the sofa wearing an award-winning drowsy look.
"Hi, Mrs. Nash," he said sarcastically.
"Okay, I... I didn’t want you to find out this—"
He cut her off. "I don’t want to talk about it now."
Jillian thought she saw a hint of guilt in Victoria’s expression, so she searched Rob’s face for any hint of the same, but all she found there was a silly grin. Looking back at her friend, she asked casually, "So, what’d you guys do last night?"
Victoria glanced at Rob then quickly back to Jillian. "We were both a little depressed, so we had some drinks and then just went to sleep."
Jillian glared at her skeptically. Glancing down, Victoria noticed David’s replica still standing at attention on the coffee table. She motioned to Rob to grab it, but he looked at her, confused. Jillian caught Victoria’s hand motion and began to turn toward the table, so Victoria said in a loud, whiny voice, "Yesterday was David’s and my anniversary of exactly one month before..."
Welling up with fake tears, she grabbed Jillian tight for a hug. Her eyes wide, Jillian awkwardly wrapped her arms around Victoria as she continued, "I was having a rough night." Victoria mouthed to Rob, " THE DILDO ," as she pointed to it and glared at him. While letting out a gape-mouthed, nearly silent laugh, he quickly grabbed it and waved it around, mockingly pointing it at both women.
Victoria squeezed her friend more tightly. "It’s one month before our wedding anniversary. David sent me those two-dozen carnations. You remember, I told you about—"
"Sure. Oh, you poor..." Bringing her hand up to stroke Victoria's hair, Jillian melted a little. "Sorry about that. I, uh... Is there anything I can do?"
"No... I don't think… I, uh..." She looked at Rob, who was still holding the dildo while wearing an immature grin. Directing it at his face, he opened his mouth, as if he were about to take it inside, and raised his eyebrows. She waved angrily at him; he rolled his eyes, shoved the replica under the cushion, and shrugged his shoulders, frowning. Victoria exhaled deeply and released her death grip on Jillian.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Jillian asked.
    "I'm better now."
Stepping back, Jillian looked at Rob. "Sorry you had to find out about Brian and… you know, us that way. I meant to tell you, but I could never find the right time."
He folded his arms across his chest. "Really? Brian Nash?"
    "You don’t think he's a great guy?"
    "I do, but..."
Jillian gave him a hopeful look. "If you really don't want me to marry him, then I'll—"
"No. If you’re happy, I guess I’m happy for you."
She looked at him, a little shocked, then gave him a bright smile. "I am
