started working like nothing happened.
It was past lunch when I was called by my manager. I thought that he would be angry at me, as I was late and didn’t inform him anything before.
“Hey! I am going to keep it short, as I am running late for a business meeting, but you have been relieved from my service,” he said and for a moment I couldn’t believe. I have always been a very dedicated employee. He could not fire me just like that, without giving any reason. I was about to question him when he realized the wrong choices of his words.
“I am sorry that came out wrong. It means that you have been promoted. We are on equal levels now and you have to assist the CEO of the company for an upcoming project. Go meet him now, he must be waiting for you!” he said and stormed out. A part of me knew that the promotion was coming, but I didn’t know that it would be so soon and that I would be asked to report to the CEO of the company himself.
“Wow!” I said and smiled at the thought of Nathan Carter.
Nathan Carter, the name was enough – CEO of one of the leading tech giants of the continent, he was included in the list of most intellectual and risk taking CEOs in the world. I never got a chance to see him up close, forget about the idea of talking to him! I only saw him a couple of times in all-hands meetings, where all the employees would be asked to assemble at the big auditorium for a big announcement. I would see him from a distance and appreciate his words, but never got a chance to work with him. It was a dream coming true.
It was my moment. I quickly ran to the washroom and applied some make-up. I didn’t have a very pretty face, but the late night hangover made it look even worse. My hair was all messed up and I took some fifteen minutes to arrange them properly. After I realized that it was already noon, I quickly ran towards the elevator and pressed the “up” button.
As the elevator was opened, I saw Nathan walking out of it. He didn’t notice my presence or passed me a smile. He looked cold and devoid of any human sentiments and walked away. I realized that I was late and should confront him.
“Nathan!” I said while pacing towards him. I had to walk faster than my usual pace in order to match his speed. He was wearing a navy blazer and his eyes looked mysterious ocean blue. He turned around and looked at me. He had no idea about me.
“I am Rebecca Stone. I was supposed to report you for an upcoming project,” I said in order to explain my intentions of stopping him unexpectedly like that.
“I guess you were supposed to meet me two hours ago,” he said bluntly looking at my face, making me judge my own intentions.
“I am sorry, I was late.”
“Well don’t be from yesterday. I have big plans for you.” He said and walked away. The Jaguar was already waiting him and he drove it himself. Before I could process what happened, he was already gone.
I breathed a sigh of relief and walked towards my workstation. I knew that it was not a good first impression and that I had to pull up my socks from the next day. I couldn’t let that opportunity go.

Chapter Three
I was fifteen minutes early at work the next day. I settled down and opened my emails. There was no intimation or message from Nathan or his assistant. I decided to visit him office once to just check if he was still there or not. To my surprise, the gate of his room was open. I dared enough to walk towards it and knocked the wooden door. He was already there, working on his laptop.
“Please sit, Miss Rebecca Stone!” he said without looking at me. His eyes were fixed at this laptop screen. I took a couple of steps and sat on the beige colored chair placed in front of his desk. The place had a very strange and strong essence and I couldn’t quite figure out what it was like. Yes, it was mysterious but pleasant at the same time. I believe it was him.
I looked at him – his dark brown hair, a perfectly chiselled face that had
