breathed, his eyes
scanning mine, sincerity written all over his face, which made my stomach
flutter. Finian Delany, the guy all the women wanted, was telling me he wanted
me. ‘From the moment our eyes met in that library, but I couldn’t allow myself
to acknowledge it until I was ready to be the kind of guy you need, the kind of
guy you deserve. It took a long time, but I’m there now. Tell me that I’m not
too late, tell me that you’re ready, too?’
‘Are you talking a relationship? Or … or just … just
sex?’ I asked, feeling my cheeks heat up. He leaned in, letting his lips brush
the corner of my mouth, then trail up my cheek to my ear, nearly reducing me to
a puddle on his lap.
‘A relationship, Freckles,’ he whispered. ‘But trust me,
there’s going to be lots and lots of sex. We have a hell of a lot of
lost time to make up for. Starting right now.’
‘Fin,’ I moaned, as he started to kiss his way back down
to my lips. ‘Fin, I …’ His mouth met the corner of mine just as there was a
heavy knock on the door.
‘Feck!’ he muttered. ‘Room service. Ignore it.’ He moved
to kiss me again, but I turned my head.
‘No. I’m starving and I need to be sure you’re serious
before I even think about taking this further, Fin,’ I stated, amazing myself
at my strength, when all I wanted was for him to kiss me. All I wanted was for
him to show me why all the women he’d fucked were left distraught when he was
done with them.
He sighed and gave a brief nod, lifted me up and sat me
back down on the bed. I watched, trying to regulate my breathing again, as he
picked up his shirt and waistcoat from the floor and headed out to the lounge
to go and get the door. Holy shit. Was this really happening? Was he serious?
All those years of repressed feelings and desire for him were battering my
senses. Even if it was just a ploy to get in my knickers, did I really want to
deny myself the satisfaction? I might regret it if we had sex and he broke my
heart again, but surely regretting a missed opportunity would be even worse. I
heard him talking in the lounge and pulled my knees up to my chest, then tucked
the duvet around me, biting my lip as he strode back in with a tray. Jesus, he
looked amazing.
‘If you’re blowing me off for food, you’d better make
damn sure you eat every last mouthful,’ he warned, with a twinkle in his eye. I
choked and coughed at the thought of blowing him off. I’d never even seen him
naked, but from what I’d felt rubbing against me earlier, I couldn’t wait.
‘Still got a dirty mind, I see,’ he chuckled as he placed the tray next to me.
‘It’s you, you say things that lead me there.’
‘This is your food, no watching my arse as I go to get
mine,’ he winked.
‘Please, I’ve seen your arse in boxers a million times,
it’s nothing special,’ I retorted, lifting a cloche to grab some fries and chewing
on them as I flashed a look at his backside retreating. It was special.
High and tight with a seriously sexy curve to it. I chomped on my fries,
imagining my teeth chowing down and biting his flesh, then choked again as he
looked over his shoulder to catch me staring and grinned at me.
‘Special enough to have you salivating,’ he called. I
shook my head to rid myself of indecent thoughts and grabbed my burger. I
seriously was starving after not eating since lunch yesterday, then throwing up
earlier. Fin came and sat on the bed with his food. He’d ordered the same and
made me a cup of tea, milky with two sugars, just how I’d always taken it.
‘You remembered,’ I mumbled, covering my mouth as I spoke
with a mouthful of the best burger I’d ever eaten.
‘Never forgot a thing about you, Freckles. So, tell me
all about you. What have I missed?’

He piled up the plates and cleared the bed of the trays
after we’d eaten and talked. We’d just slipped back into our old relaxed banter
as I’d filled him in on work, my business, parents and my
