hospital to get checked out. “It sounds like it. Looks like we’ll all have a trip to the ER in our future.”
Madison started to panic. “We can’t go to the ER. They’ll now we’re there. We’ve got to get out of here Avery. We gotta go home. This shit has found us now no one here is safe with us around.”
“What the fuck do you mean Madison? We’re in no shape to drive. Those fuckers are long gone by now. We’ll be fine girl. Just try to relax,” I said trying to comfort her and myself. She was right. If this was because of the club they wouldn’t stop til they had what they were after, us.
“Avery we have to go,” Madison said as she got herself upright. “If we don’t get out of here now the cops will have us for questioning and god knows what else. We need to leave and we need to leave now.”
I looked over to Ben as he was sitting with Trevor. By the look in his eye I could tell he had been eavesdropping. “She’s got a point Avery. I can call in a few guys but I’m not equipped to cover you two and the other girls. If this shit is related to what you have back home, I’m not sure home is safe for you either. You’re the only one that can make that choice. If your leaving you need to do it quickly. Those sirens are close. I’ll think of something to tell the cops.”
“Ben I can’t leave Trevor like this. He’s been shot,” I argued. I went to Trevor’s side taking his hand in mine.
“I’ll be fine sweet cheeks. If you’re going, get your ass out of here. Don’t stop until you get to that damn family of yours. I’ll check in with you in a few days. Be careful bitch. I love you,” Trevor told me through gritted teeth. He was in pain but still trying to be the hard ass.
“Avery come on we’ve got to get out of here. We need to snatch a vehicle and role girl. We’ll send someone back to pick Trevor up. He can stay with us while he’s recovering and shit.”
“Go Avery. I’ll make sure someone is with Trevor at all times. No one will get close to him if I can help it. Madison’s GTO is parked over by our bus. I had just come out to help Harvey get it loaded when we heard the gun shot. Keys are still in it. Just get in the fucking car and get moving!”
By now the sirens where in the parking lot. Madison stood up to pull me with her. Reluctantly I let go of my best friend’s hand and went with her. Madison and I moved towards Layla and Ben’s bus as quickly as we could. With her still woozy from the blow to the head and my body on fire from being kicked over and over we weren’t moving very fast. Luckily for us we were over to the bus by the time the cops and ambulance made it to the guys. Madison moved to go to the car but I stopped her.
“Avery we don’t have time for good-byes babe. We need to get some distance between here and home. It won’t take those fuckers long to realize we aren’t at the hospital or with the cops. The sooner we leave the better,” Madison pleaded.
“I have to go on the bus first. I won’t be but a minute. Go ahead and get in the car. I’ll drive but I have to grab something before we leave,” I said feeling guilty about referring to Hunter as “something”.
“We don’t have time for this. We need to go. What the fuck is so important that they can’t hold it for you or mail it back home to you? Get your head out of your ass woman and let’s get the fuck out of here.”
“I have to get something. We need money and some ibuprofen. I’ll be right back. Just get in the car and I’ll be right back,” I snapped as I turned towards the bus.
Madison grabbed my arm harshly and began pulling me towards the car away from the bus. “You’re going to get your ass in this car and we are fucking leaving right now!”
I tried not to lash out but it didn’t work. I didn’t want her to find out this way but oh fucking well. “Let me go. Get your fucking hands off of me. I CAN’T LEAVE WITHOUT MY SON GOD DAMMIT!”
