took her hand and said, “Because where do you
think we will be if you take the throne?  We will be with you, making sure
your safe.  You would be in the best position to change things.  We
would be backing you at that point.  Just think about it, okay?”
She nodded.  She would have to think about it.
She would rather come up with another plan, but deep down inside herself she
knew the truth.  He was right…
    ------------------
Gwen went up to the bridge on a mission, she wanted to do
more.  She loved being with her crew and being with Bill was an amazing
experience for her.  But she had to be able to do more to help and
analyzing data wasn’t her forte.
She saw everyone was already there so she took a chair to watch.
They had dropped off all the Elvii and now they were moving up to taking out
some leadership in the Empire.  She wished there was a more peaceful
solution, but in an Empire where one man’s word was law and he had only a few
men he shared some of that power with.  The only way to effect change was
a revolution of sorts.
At least they were trying to avoid a long war, putting the
next in line on the throne early was probably the best of all solutions.
Of course, even with the power of the throne behind them it would take
caution.  A lot of beings wouldn’t be happy giving up their slaves.
Yes, probably a small percentage she thought, but all it takes is one crazy
person with a ship to cause havoc, or send an assassin, as they well know.
Tiffani said, “Yes, that ship.  It should have two of
the councilors on board.  They should be en route to Angilli now.”
She watched as Ariella plotted a course and updated our
three allied ships and they took off on an intercept route.  There were
only two ships, they didn’t stand a chance.  She closed her eyes as they
split up forces and two on one destroyed the councilor’s ships.  When her
eyes opened she gasped.  Five heavy cruisers uncloaked and started to fire
on them.  She wondered why they hadn’t protected the other ships, maybe
they couldn’t respond fast enough?
She watched as Ariella evaded the weapons fire from two of
the ships and struck back with plasma bolts, taking one out of the
equation.  One other was taken out by the other two ships, but she watched
in horror as Anise and Silvia’s ship was knocked out of the fight and started
drifting…
    -----------------
Bill felt sick, was this some kind of ambush?  Why
would they sacrifice the councilors like that?
He turned to Ariella and said, “We must rescue Anise and
Sylvia!”
Ariella nodded but said, “I can’t get a lock and their
communications are down.  You will have to go over there, make your way to
the engine room and shut down the reactor.  Then I can get everyone out of
there.”
He blinked and nodded in agreement when both Larissa and
Gwen said, “I’m going too!”
He was surprised a little at Gwen’s volunteering but
realized she would be needed to turn off the engine core.  He had no idea
how to do that and imagined smashing things were a bad idea.
He saw Ariella and the remaining two ships take out another
heavy cruiser, only two left now of the enemy.  Hopefully they would
ignore the ship out of action and focus on the three still a danger, or this
rescue would be cut short, with their deaths.
He saw the lights surround him and he was in a
corridor.  Gwen looked around a second and yelled, “This way!”
He and Larissa followed her.  He noticed Larissa looked
impressed with Gwen for once.  It wasn’t battle exactly.  There were
not any enemy forces here, just allies.  But it was still brave to
come.  It was a far way to the engine room but they made it.  It took
Gwen a few minutes to shut down the core, and they were surrounded by the
swirling lights and found themselves back on Ariella’s bridge.
Ariella sent out a retreat order for the other ships and
stayed alone.  It didn’t take long for her to take out the two
