time,” Nolan said to Duke, his attention on the three.
“I agree. Let them explore, we have a few things to do before dinner arrives.” Duke said going over and placing a kiss on Lucy’s head. “We have pizza coming for dinner tonight, but it won’t be for a few hours. Explore with the children. We’ll be in the kitchen. I need to speak with mom and her husband before they leave.”
Lucy nodded and reached up, squeezing his arm. “Thank you for all of this, both of you.”
“We’re having pizza too?” Roman asked. His eyes got big before he jumped off the bed and ran to him, hugging his leg.
Duke swore his heart swelled so big his chest was expanding. Tears filled his own eyes as he ran his hand over the boy’s wild hair. “Yes, we’re having pizza too. We promised we would take care of you, little man, and we will.” He choked out the words. “Now, you three have fun exploring while Nolan and I take care of some business so we can spend some time with you before bed.” Duke said, lifting the boy up into the air, earning a giggle out of him.
“You watch the girls now while we’re downstairs, okay?” Duke said, putting him down. The boy nodded and looked back at Karla and Lucy.
“I’ll protect them,” he said, crawling back onto the big bed and sitting between Karla and Lucy.
Lucy kissed the top of his head. “Thank you, Roman. I feel safe already,” Duke heard her say as the two of them made their way downstairs. He wanted to make sure the threat to his family was gone and needed to speak with his mother about tomorrow’s cook out. They sure didn’t need a repeat of what had happened earlier tomorrow.

Chapter Ten

Lucy tucked Karla into her new bed and handed her the stuffed wolf she had loved the first time she had seen it. “I’m very proud of you, Karla. You’ve kept your brother safe while the courts decided if you could come to live with me. I’m proud you are my little girl and I love you very much.” She leaned down to kiss her cheek and Karla reached up, hugging her tight.
“I’m so glad you’re our mommy now. Love you,” she said and snuggled down in the covers as Lucy stood and moved to the door, a lump in her throat. Duke wrapped his arms around her and guided her to the master suite.
“Now it’s time for Mommy to relax. Nolan has the hot tub started, finger food for us and a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate,” he told her, opening the balcony doors.
Nolan stood there with no shirt on, his pants unbuckled and no shoes, with a bouquet of roses: ¬red, white, pink and yellow. “We didn’t know what color you liked so I got every color they had.” Nolan told her, handing them to her.
She brought them up to her nose, smelling them. There were over two-dozen of them. “They are stunning, thank you. It’s the first time I’ve gotten flowers from a man.”
“Well then, we’ll make sure you get flowers at least once a month,” Duke said. “Do you want to put them in the vase?”
“Thank you. Maybe we can put them right next to your art piece.” she said, unwrapping them and sliding them into the crystal vase filled with water that Nolan held out for her. When Nolan moved into the bedroom to put the flowers where she had suggested, Lucy stared at the table full of food and the bottle cooling in a bucket of ice near the hot tub.
Her mouth grew dry and she looked down at the floor, but that didn’t last long as Duke turned her towards him. “Allow me?” he said reaching down and slowly unbuttoning her blouse, sliding it down off her arms.
Nolan took the shirt from Duke and placed it on a small table off to the side. “You have such soft and delicate skin,” Duke said running his finger down her neck, reaching around and unsnapping her bra.
Her hand came up automatically to cover herself when he removed her bra, but he shook his head and pulled her hands away, back down to her side. “Never hide such beauty from us,” Duke said leaning down and
