outside, I decided on my hot pink Betsey Johnson fitted tube dress and my yellow Louboutins. It was eighty degrees outside and I couldn’t wait to look like Spring.
“Panties or no panties,” I said to myself then looked in the mirror. “Fuck the panties. It’s easier access anyway.”
Needing to coat my stomach, I thought it would be wise to get something to eat before I left. After walking downstairs and into the kitchen, to my surprise, Marisol and my father were in the foyer about to leave out together.
What the fuck is he doing here ? I thought. I hadn’t even noticed his car outside.
“You still messing with him, are you serious?” I asked, surprised to see my father and Marisol getting along.
“Didn’t we just talk about you being disrespectful,” Marisol snapped. “I didn’t hear you speak to your father.”
“Wassup, Rich. You that nigga, I gotta give it to ya.” I laughed before walking past them and into the kitchen. Unfortunately, within seconds they were both on my heels.
“Denie, who do you think you’re talkin’ to, and where the hell do you think you’re goin’ dressed like that? This is not Miami. You need to put some damn clothes on,” Rich preached as if I was really gonna listen.
I ignored him as I made a bowl of fruit salad.
“You think you can manipulate every woman in your life. I used to be gullible and hang onto your every word, but I’m on to you now. Marisol, I thought you were stronger than that. How can he kill your husband and then it be all good? Wow.” I shook my head back and forth.
Marisol looked like she wanted to jump on me, until Rich held her back.
“Why do you keep throwin’ jabs?” Rich questioned. “How long are you gonna make me pay for hurtin’ you? I’m sorry. I just want my daughter back.”
“Whatever,” I replied, trying to stay strong. There was no way I was gonna let that nigga see me cry.
“Let me tell you something little girl. I’m your mother, and this is my house and you will respect me and whatever comes with it. I’ve done too much to try and make things right. You will do as I say, or you’ll see how strong I can be, so try me. For your information, I know everything about your father and Carlos, so no one has to try and hold it over Rich’s head anymore.”
“Let me guess. It was Jade’s fault, or Lisa’s fault, hell, maybe Trixie did it. You think you know, huh.” I laughed then sashayed myself past them and went back upstairs to my room.
Rich looked so hurt, but his ass deserved it. I was glad when I finally heard the front door close, so I could eat my fruit salad in peace. Moments later, my cell phone rang from an unknown number.
    “Hello.”
“You have a pre-paid call from a federal prison.” The operator went on and on with instructions on what to do and if I wanted to accept or decline the call. I decided to press 0.
“Man, what’s up? Why you ain’t write me back yet?” Nelson asked.
No bitchassness allowed was my new motto. I definitely wasn’t in any mood for his whining.
“Well, hello to you, too, Nelson. How are you doing?” I said in a sarcastic tone.
“I’m sorry baby, I just miss you so much.”
I rolled my eyes in my head. “Did you get the money I put on your books?”
“Yes, I did. Thanks baby. Did you get a chance to take my mother that cash last week?”
“Yes, I took your mother $100 for her phone bill and gave her some money to play her numbers.”
“I appreciate that. When do you think you gonna make it down here? I ain’t seen you in almost two months.”
    “I don’t know.”
“Stan’s right here, he wanna know if you talked to Chanel. He’s been calling her, but she ain’t been answering his calls.”
“Don’t do that. I ain’t got shit to do with Chanel and Stan.”
“She ain’t talked to her,” I heard Nelson say to keep the peace.
He knew I didn’t play that shit.
As he continued to talk, it was the longest ten minutes of my life. I listened to
