has never been kissed. I have even been to second base. It’s not like I’m against dating, I just haven’t found anyone who I want to date,” I declare defending myself.
“Is that the truth? Or are you hung up on a certain male friend whose name starts with a T?” She stirs me, and part of me thinks I should just tell her the truth and she will leave me alone. But knowing Cassie, it would be the opposite, and she would be throwing me in the deep end.
“No way. We are just awesome friends. We have heaps in common and like to hang out,” I reply.
“Yeah, yeah. I know all of that Brooklyn, but I see the way you both look at each other. There is more between the two of you than either one of you wants to admit,” she answers blatantly.
I just shake my head and roll my eyes. It’s infuriating how well my best friend knows me. I will admit to nothing.
Cassie heads to her sewing class, so I’m in the library on a free period, and it is way too quiet. My brain starts replaying our conversation about my feelings for Tyson. Does Cassie really believe that Tyson has feelings for me too?
Well, sure, I like Tyson more than I should, but we can’t go there, so it’s off-limits.
I need to snap myself out of it. I can’t and won’t go there with him. Our friendship means the absolute world to me, and I would never do anything to jeopardize it.
I actually think that Cassie is right. I really need to start dating. That is the only way to put myself out there. Maybe I will find someone else, and Mr. Right might be just around the corner.
If he’s not, then I guess I will see if I have real feelings for Tyson. I’m not ruining our friendship if we don’t have a real connection. What better way to see than to try out a few other guys? What do I have to lose? I send my BFF a text.
    Me:
    I’m ready to hook up.
Less than twenty seconds later, my phone beeps.
    Cassie:
Squeal! I have the perfect guy for you! We are going on a double date on Saturday night.
Holy shit, that was quick. The whole random guy thing scares the crap outta me. I should say no and make up an excuse, but you only live once, right? So I reply.
    Okay.
    It’s do or die.

What have I gotten myself into? How is it Saturday already? Cassie has assured me that Kyle is very good looking, intelligent, and not a sleazebag. I may have even checked his Facebook page, and yes, the boy is a looker.
Cassie drives her crimson red sporty hatchback to Spinnaker’s Café, where we are meeting her boyfriend, Lucas, and his infamous friend, Kyle. “God, Brooke, you really are out of touch. You look white as a ghost,” she declares to me with wide eyes.
“Very funny,” I reply feeling slightly nauseous.
I have the strangest feeling, as if I’m betraying Tyson just by being here. I know it’s silly because we are just friends, but honestly, we have such a strong bond.
Cassie parks with ease between a motorcycle and a station wagon. I climb out of the passenger seat and inhale the fresh night air. It feels so nice on my face, a welcome coolness to ease my nervousness.
“There they are in the booth,” my BFF says to me as we enter the café and glance around. I look over at a corner booth situated next to the flat screen TV and see a very smiley Lucas waving, and his friend Kyle. Even from a distance, I can see he is hot!
Well, shit, he has my attention so far.
“Close your mouth, Brooke. You so owe me one,” Cassie whispers to me, and I can’t help but giggle.
Casually, I follow her over to the table, where she embraces Lucas, and their kiss grosses me out. Wow, Kyle really is gorgeous. He is extremely tanned, his muscles are bulging through the sleeves of his white tee; he has hazelnut colored eyes, and his wavy blond hair looks even shinier than mine is.
“Brooklyn, this is Kyle,” Cassie introduces us.
Kyle stands, showing off more of his body and slim waist, and his smile is beaming. “Hey, Brooklyn, it’s awesome to finally meet you.
