making a long keening sound as her release came upon her, his mouth took hers again and absorbed the sound as her climax triggered his own. The pleasure lasted for long minutes, each of them reluctant for it to end; he was still encased in her body relishing the feel of her twitching interior muscles as they struggled to calm to normal. He placed gentle kisses along her jaw and hairline at the same time sheltering her face from the never-ending rain.

    Chapter 17

Jared woke abruptly to something hard poking him in the shoulder. His first instinct was to make sure that the small figure in the bed next to him was fully covered, a sound of satisfied contentment gurgled past her lips as he tucked the comforter more securely around her shoulders. He then stared up into the astonished and angry face of his mother.
“Good Morning mom” he said behind a jaw-popping yawn.
“Don’t you Good Morning Mom me, you rake. Please tell me than my eyes are being affected by age and that’s not Lily in your bed” her voice was a vicious whisper.
“How could you do this Jared? She’s not one of your love em’ and leave em’ women. She of all people should have been safe from this sort of thing.” She had poked him several more time with the hairbrush she had picked up, punctuating each sentence.
“I thought you would be happy about this mom, I thought that you loved Lily and that you wanted grandchildren?” he watched the magic words change her features.
“Grandchildren? Are you telling me that Lily’s pregnant?” She looked both outraged and excited.
“If she’s not yet, I’m going to do my best to try to get her that way.” He made the statement sound like a promise.
    “Do you love her son?”
“More than my own life, but I haven’t been able to convince her of that yet. Until I can get her tied to me with a wedding ring, I’m going to keep her tie her to me with a child.”
Jared saw nothing wrong with his way of thinking. Was he trying to trap her with a baby? Yes, if that’s what it took to keep her with him. Nothing was fair in love and war after all and Jared suddenly felt like he was fighting for his life. He couldn’t imagine his life without her and the thought of her growing round with his child made his chest swell until he thought he might choke. It amazed him that as smart as she was that she never questioned the lack of birth control between them, that right now his child could be growing beneath her heart.
“Did you want something mom or were you trying to catch me with a girl in my room?” He lowered his voice as Lily began to stir.
“Actually, I came to say that I went looking for Lily and couldn’t find her anywhere and was worried that something might have happened to her, but I guess I can stop worrying about her whereabouts. You’ve got that or should I say her pretty much covered.” The anger had faded from her eyes and all that was left was hope.
Suddenly Lily bolted awake as she realized that the sun had risen and she was still in bed with Jared, the whole household would be awake by now and it would be difficult to explain why she was still here in yesterday’s clothes. Color invaded her face, a deep red blush colored her high cheekbones and her eyes met Ava smiling face.
“Ava, ah ah “She stuttered. “This is not what it looks like; I mean it is but ..” She trailed off and looked at Jared for some help.
“I think I’m going downstairs to fix some breakfast for my son and my future daughter-in-law.” She started humming as she left the room.
“Oh my God, I don’t think I can look her in the face again, what must she think of me.” She became panicked and tried to leave the bed. Jared simply looped an arm around her waist and dragged her across the space between them to a space directly underneath him. He stared to nuzzle her neck and spent just a moment enjoying being able to wake up next to her.
    She wiggled wildly
    “Jared, what are
