Put A Ring On It

Chapter One
At the time of her mother's death, Tina was barely eighteen years of age. She had just completed her high school education and things were looking up before her mum was involved in an accident that claimed her life. She had lost her father years back when she was still a toddler.
On this fateful evening, she was strolling along the shores of the Indian Ocean , waiting for darkness to fall so that she could venture into town and look for sex-starved tourists who paid big bucks for a piece of the Kenyan women. Prostitution was illegal in Kenya and was culturally a taboo. But what was a young orphaned girl with little education to do when she had to fend for three of her younger siblings? As she watched the waves hit the shores, she noticed a young handsome man staring at her from a distance. He had a great body and smooth black hair, which he let down to his shoulders. The wind blew his hair away from his shoulders and brought it back in perfect harmony. He was well built and had a tattoo on his left arm.
His name was Ted as she later came to learn. In her eyes, he was the perfect catch for the night and she was definitely not letting go of the opportunity. As if on cue, Ted waved at her and approached where she stood. The stage was set. Tina, being the go-getter she is, gave him a seductive smile as she stretched out her hand to greet him. “My name is Ted; it's my first time in Kenya. Nice to meet you,” he said. “Am Tina, I have lived in Mtwapa all my life. I can show you around,” she replied as her face lit up to reveal her great dimples. Ted was nervous because his English had great influence from his French background and he did not know Swahili, the local language. Tina's English was, of course, no better, but she had impeccable knowledge of the Swahili language.
Ted did not let go of her hand after the introduction. He talk ed to her for half an hour with her hand in his. It was clear from this point on that Ted had seen something in Tina and was planning to pursue it to the end. Unfortunately for Tina, she did not end up waking up in his hotel room the next morning as she had to go into town to look for her regular clients.
Chapter Two
A few days later, Tina's phone rang in the middle of a conversation with some of her workmates. It was Ted. She frowned and said to her workmates in Swahili, while pointing at the phone's screen, “huyu mzungu mshenzi kweli, ninampakulia chakula kwenye sahani hataki kukila” (“this white man is very silly. I serve him food on the plate yet he does not want to eat it”). Upon answering the call, Ted invited her to the hotel he was staying in, saying that he was ready to explore the town and he would like to take her up on her offer to show him around.
Tina and Ted were accompanied by one of his friends, Pierre. Ted had told him about Tina the same evening he had met her. He told him how beautiful she was and that he thought she could be 'the one .' Pierre was naturally curious since he knew his friend as the type never to joke about such matters. At 32, Ted
