    WHAT HAPPENS ON VENUS . . .
    by Sharon Love

    Chapter One

Boasting about my sexual adventures sometimes got me into trouble. Mostly because I had none to speak of. I’d only been with one girl, but I claimed I’d been with three, including my hot milf neighbor. But really my experience was with my not so hot desperate co-worker. Our mutual position exploration was quick and short lived. Everything I knew jumped a level in one night when a waitress named Heather introduced herself and offered to help me out of a jam.
“Come on Leo, why won’t you guys let me chip in?” I said across the table. I’d gone to the bar, after work for a drink with three of my buddies. Well, we only hung out after work because we were on the same development team. Looking back, they were less than buddies of mine. But they were guys.
“You cramp our style,” Leo, the pseudo-leader said. “We’ll see you at the con, but inviting you up to the room? How do we gain from letting you in?”
“I agree,” Dallas said. He was just as handsome as Leo, but more laid back. “How is it going to look to have someone like you tagging along.”
I didn’t understand what their beef was with me. I wasn’t that bad looking. I worked out. Sure I had glasses and kept my hair cut super short. What? I was a military brat. They just never gave me a chance with the ladies. Maybe they were cramping my style.
“Take your costume for the con,” Leo said, attempting to prove more reasons why I didn’t fit in with them. “Who are you dressing as?”
“Captain Cold from Legends of Tomorrow,” I answered. “He’s cool.”
“Oh, dude he’s DC and a superhero. We’re going as The Force Awakens rebel pilots,” Dallas said. “No can do.”
“I’ll bring a girl. A pretty one. In tights,” I said in desperation.
Leo huffed, but the promise of a female in the hotel room seemed to intrigue him. He leaned back in his chair. “Huddle.” Dallas and Mitchell hovered around Leo.
Shit! Are they considering my offer? I panicked. The only female I knew that could fit into tights without looking like a stuffed sausage was my nine year old niece.
The temporary council dispersed. “I know I’m going to regret this,” Leo said, snapping up out of his chair. “We won’t walk around the con with you. Can’t risk mixing universes.” He folded his arms across his chest. “But we’ll check out your friend. If she’s hot enough. We’ll let you join us upstairs in the room.”
    “I’ll be there. Thanks.”
Leo slapped me on the back. “Oh and thanks for the beers, man.”
The three downed the rest of their drinks, slammed the pints down on the table, and walked off, leaving the bar.
They left me stewing in the mess I’d gotten myself into. Where am I going to find a hot girl? My only girl friend refused to dress up or go to cons with me. And I haven’t texted her in over a year. I doubt she’d help me. There’s my cousin. She’s not really a head turner, but she could wear a mask. I finished my own drink and considered ordering another. I looked for the waitress, but she on the other side of the bar, so I slumped over the table and rested my head on my arms until she could find the time to come over. Blocking the noise of the bar out gave me time to think.
“Where’d your friends go?” Heather the waitress asked, shaking me to sit up.
“Home. Do you have the tab?”
“Sure. Hey, Jimmy can I ask you something?” Heather sat at the table with me “Why come here with them?”
Why was she asking? Why was she sitting? How does she know my name? Heather was gorgeous and she was always nice to me. It was probably for the tips. Still something about the way she acted made me want to tell her the truth. I kinda had to. I always sweated profusely when I lied. If that started, she’d never wait on me again. “They’re the only guys I know.”
“That’s too bad. You can do better.”
    “They say high
