continued, “She’s okay, shaken and apparently stirred…We may not see much of Adrienne for awhile. She is the only female charter member and is a power around town. We do like to be an equal-opportunity organization. I always liked Judge Vieira and never could see them as a couple. I don’t think he ever came here.” He laughed as he put his arm around Calleigh. “I’m proud of how much loyalty you inspire in your friends.”
As Trent turned to Paula, she moved away from him toward the edge of the chaise. “How long can you stay mad?” he whispered in her ear, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, just about until hell freezes over,” she replied with a hiss.
“Did you hear about what the girls did to Adrienne Vieira?” Steele asked Michael Hamilton as he joined the group at the pool. “I’ll let Robbie fill you in.” He rolled Calleigh over to smooth suntan oil on her back. “It will probably go down in club history as one of the finer moments.”
“Actually, I did hear something, not all the details, but that Adrienne has decided to withdraw from membership in the club, and Anne already has a substitute lined up to take her place,” Michael replied. “Some dude from Le Club Beaudelair–New Orleans, Justin Devereau. I don’t know anything about him.”
    “Yeah!” The three girls cheered.
    “No loss there,” Calleigh replied.
Jason and Trent looked at each other. “Justin?” they said simultaneously.
“We know him,” Steele said. “From college. He took us to his father’s club in New Orleans when we were seniors. It was an eye-opening experience to be sure. It’s a much darker club than this, very private, still limited to ten members. And Justin is a bit of a dark character. Not over the top…just dark, sort of ‘Heathcliff,’ if you know what I mean.”
“I liked him a lot, but he definitely has issues,” Trent replied. “Should be an interesting addition to the club. I wonder why he’s coming down here.”

Chapter Nineteen

As the shadows began to lengthen around the pool, Trent took Paula’s hand firmly and, rising from the chaise, said, “Let’s go upstairs. We have a couple of hours until dinner and then we will take you ladies home. Weekends just seem to fly by.”
“Yeah, time flies when you’re having fun,” Paula quipped as he dragged her quickly toward the house. “Stop pulling me! I’m coming. Don’t know why, but I am.” She stumbled along behind him, staring daggers into his back as he rushed her up the stairs to the second floor.
“I want to make sure you’re ‘coming,’” he replied with a leer as they entered the suite. Trent turned her into his arms, but she struggled free.
    “Fat chance!”
“Do you think we can talk for a minute without the sarcasm? I would really like to,” he said hopefully.
    “So talk.”
“Not going to make this easy, are you?”
    “Nope.”
“Okay. I made some incorrect assumptions based on incomplete facts, and I’m sorry that I did not give you the benefit of the doubt or the chance you deserved,” Trent said formally, looking Paula directly in the eye. “I humbly apologize.”
“What exactly are you apologizing for? Spanking me? Treating me like I had the plague? Assuming that I was an absolutely horrible person? Leaving me sexually starved in the midst of a sexual feast? Shall I go on?”
“All of the above, except the spanking, which you richly deserved. Do you think we could try this again from the top, subbie?” he asked contritely.
“I guess so,” Paula replied, but not too enthusiastically. He really is just so damn gorgeous, though . He picked her up in his arms and headed for the bed. He swept the mosquito netting to the side and put her down. He gently began to unbutton the cover-up over her thong bathing suit, rolled her over, and checked her bottom as she squirmed and struggled.
“No permanent damage,” he stated, giving her ass a less-than-gentle smack. He pulled the bathing suit down,
