won’t be easy loving him. He’s pure alpha male and likes to be the one to dictate how things are going to go. All my sons are like that, to some extent, but Dillon got an extra helping of it. He’s always been like that. Doesn’t fall in love easy, but when he falls, it’s forever. A man like that…it takes a strong woman to love a man like that, but it’s worth the effort. Believe me.”
“Now, the men should be joining us shortly. Why don’t we head back to the family room? Dillon will be anxious if you’re not there when he and the rest of the men get done cleaning up. Oh, and by the way, I’ll be expecting you for lunch every Sunday from now on, ya hear? Only good excuse is hospitalization,” she said, laughing at her own joke.
No sooner had Abby and Cassie returned to the family room than the men arrived, talking and laughing. Abby saw Dillon’s eyes quickly scan the room before they landed on her where she sat on the love seat. He made a beeline for her and crowded in to sit next to her, putting his arm around her and pulling her back to recline slightly on the seat. She absently noted that the married Chisholms took their respective spots next to their brides and did the same.
“Miss me?” asked Dillon softly with a teasing smile.
“I found out a few things that I think we need to talk about when we’re alone,” she said quietly so only he could hear.
“Oh, what’s that?” he asked warily.
“We’ll talk about it when we’re alone. I don’t want to discuss it in front of your family,” she whispered.
“Okay, baby,” he said as he nuzzled her neck. “You’re the boss. For now.”
The family visited for another hour and then Ryder headed out to make sure Chaps & Spurs got opened on time. He and Ryan had given several of the bartenders at the club some additional duties, in addition to an increase in pay, and had recently started having one of them open on Sundays. Ryder was checking to make sure things ran smoothly. Next, Jordan, Xander, and baby A.J. headed out. A.J.’s full name was Alexander James Chisholm and the family had originally started calling him Lex. However, Jordan had decided to buck tradition and started calling him A.J. to give the baby a separate identity from all the Alexanders before him in the Chisholm family. Soon, there was a mass exodus as the remaining brothers and sisters headed to their own homes.
Dillon made sure Abby had fastened her helmet before they roared off on the Harley, heading to his place, which was only a couple of miles up the gravel road. Abby knew that the house Dillon lived in now was originally built to house the resident veterinarian, and Dillon had lived there since the previous vet had retired several years ago. Dillon, like the rest of the Chisholm children, had been given fifty acres on the Ranch to build his dream house but hadn’t yet decided to build. Levi and Ryan hadn’t built their houses until after they had met their future wives. Abby figured Dillon would do the same.
When they got to Dillon’s house, he pulled her inside onto the black leather couch with him. Settling her next to him, he bent down and nuzzled her neck as he played with the top button of her shirt. Feeling it slide free, Abby knew she better talk fast if she wanted to have a conversation with Dillon before he took her to bed.
“Why didn’t you tell me the significance of asking me to Sunday lunch with your family?” she asked quietly as she stood up and moved away from him.
“Oh, they told you, huh?” he answered her question with a question. At her look, he smiled and stood up as well. “I didn’t want to argue with you. You would have balked at going with me to lunch at my parents’ and I wanted you there. I figured it would be easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission,” he said honestly.
“Why did you want me there, Dillon? Why was it so important to you?” she asked, wanting another honest answer from him.
    “You
